We use interdisciplinary experimental, genomic, and modeling approaches to understand how genome structure influences phenotypic responses to changing environments and vice versa.

Our research focuses on natural populations of two transatlantic fishes: Atlantic cod and Atlantic bluefin tuna 🐟
Samantha Hanauer is a PhD student the the University of New Brunswick Saint John CA researching the #genomic and #transcriptnomic variations in eastern and western #AtlanticBluefinTuna populations.

She is working with #NGS and #networkanalysis to identify differential expression among #ABFT.

This week, Simon presented at the Nordic Ocean Conference in Copenhagen - "An Ocean Without Borders – Ocean, Nature and Cooperation" 🇬🇱🇫🇴🇩🇰🇳🇴🇸🇪

During two days, researchers and managers met to discuss how the future #management of our Nordic oceans could mitigate the #biodiversity and #climate crises.

Iris and Rebekah presented at the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas #ICCAT Species Group Meetings. The research highlights the use of different low-coverage whole #genome sequencing methods to investigate population structure and structural variants in #tuna

Elise Maltais is an undergraduate research assistant and Honours student at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. 🇨🇦

She is using forward-in-time population #genomicsimulations to understand factors shaping population connectivity in Atlantic bluefin tuna. She is co-supervised by Iris Jia.

The lab spent 3 awesome days at the Wedgeport Tuna Tournament (Aug 20-22). We witnessed two records being broken & shared our science with spectators!

We collaborate with #DFO to collect #otoliths and muscle tissue from #tuna. Otoliths are used to age the fish while tissue is used for #DNA analyses

Claudia Lacroix is a PhD student at the University of Agder 🇳🇴 developing #bioacoustics tools to study reproductive #behaviour of 2 sympatric #AtlanticCod populations

She utilises #AI tools to investigate #ecoevo drivers of acoustic communication & signal variation on naturally selected behaviours

Iris Jia (Valle) is a PhD student at the University of New Brunswick Saint John 🇨🇦 exploring #genomic differences in #AtlanticBluefinTuna populations.

She uses recently developed tools like #haplotagging to investigate how #genes are affecting recovery and migratory behavior.

Remy Durocher is an MSc student at the University of New Brunswick Saint John 🇨🇦

Her research focuses on population genomics of adaptive variation in supergenes of Atlantic cod. She is developing DNA primers that target four megascale chromosomal inversions within the cod genome.

Simon Henriksson is a PhD student at the Tjärnö Marine Laboratory, University of Gothenburg 🇸🇪
His research focuses on two Atlantic cod ecotypes in Scandinavian waters, and the eco-evolutionary mechanisms that maintain them as genetically distinct units.
