It’s so bizarre when you encounter this in the wild with Normies too, like, they’ll genuinely truly believe that Trump could not have materially made their lives worse, and so they don’t understand, like genuinely are incapable of understanding, what is currently happening 
The median American voter, voted for it be 2019 again and for Trump to make them rich, under the very mistaken belief that Worse Things Aren't Possible, and quite literally everyone is paying for it
even if you somehow *could* get american voters behind a trade war against canada in isolation (and i don't think you could), trump's got 150 other trade wars and a real, live shooting war in iran going on that no one supports, there's just no political will for this beyond his own

On paper a trade war between the US and Canada should be much harder on the northern country. But one country’s political economy can sustain the major costs of a trade war and the other’s cannot.

For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.

i can halfway understand it. we are going to have to do incredibly radical constitutional hardball to make it so jim crow isn't constitutionally mandatory, but i have previously endorsed shooting people (c.f., the civil war) to stop a racialized caste system and i haven't changed my mind about that.
a lot of centrists are getting frogboiled by trumpism and attributing their growing reactionary impulses to evelyn normielib getting radicalized

It’s nice that a number of Republican electeds are standing up for America’s long-term alliances. But there’s only one way they can possibly save U.S. power and security: impeach and convict Trump, Vance, and the entire cabinet. If they do it soon they’ll even still hold the presidency.
