Ed Sheeran hoped to sidestep controversy with the removal of Macklemore from his tour over his pro-Palestine remarks. Instead, he sparked what one writer said could be a "turning point in pop culture complicity" with Israel.
Ed Sheeran Openers Quit Tour as Boycott Begins Over 'Silencing' of Macklemore's Palestine Speech
"The Ed Sheeran debacle will be seen as a turning point in pop culture complicity" with Israel, said one Palestinian-American writer, who described it as "a clear 'South Africa moment.'”

This is incredibly serious. If the State gives an undertaking (a formal, legally-binding promise) to a Judge and then fails to comply with it, it's not just contempt of court - it is also the beginning of a loss of confidence in the State's promises by judges.

macklemore calling kraft's bluff is so good
Macklemore just announced he’s donating the $1 million he made from Sheeran’s tour to 6 organizations to support Palestinians and he’s asking Robert Kraft to match it. This is just the first part announcing it.

From the same report, why they are wrong and why it matters.

There is so much research on this. We know Jim doesn’t care about evidence, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t put it up to him at every opportunity.

Sin é.

How you write a headline:
‘Danny Tommo’, leader of the balaclava-clad blackshirt rallies, says he will travel to Piddington “in the coming days” following the Parish Council’s stunt referendum: “I want to hear about safety concerns for their women and children.” Tommo was jailed for two years in 2016 for a knifepoint kidnap.

This is also why, as Terence Tao pointed out, genAI mathematics sucks: it removes every bit of unexpected consilience that comes from understanding the mental model and process.

"Oh shit, this could be used to think about this totally other thing" is *how all mathematics grows*
The speed of writing code has never, and will never be the bottleneck.

The bottleneck, the limiting factor, is always in the thinking about the code and how it works, understanding it.

People who use chatgpt to write code are literally removing the only part of programming that is actually useful.

Just saw an insta post making a salient point (I know) but the algo there makes it impossible to find stuff so I'll paraphrase:
Irish artists & musicians are putting their livelihoods on the line to support Palestine, while Ireland comes very low in the EU in terms of financial support for the arts.

This antelope just saw you be a corrupt sheriff being mean to a nice diner owner in the small town you keep under your thumb as he happened to be passing through.
The best thing about this planet is that every few days I'll learn about an animal I've literally never seen or heard of before, like the Nilgai which is just a stupidly massive antelope

President Connolly said that while the Irish government had declared a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency seven years ago – followed in 2019 by a commitment to take action – “regrettably, the stark statistics coming from a wide range of sources tell us that that action has not taken place.”
President Connolly at the Ploughing:
“Approximately 83pc of all fruit and vegetables consumed in Ireland are imported; we also continue to export 90pc of the food produced in this country. I think we all could agree that this requires urgent attention.”
President Connolly says climate change warnings are ignored ‘at our peril’ on opening day of Ploughing Championships
Over the course of the three-day championships, 270,000 people are expected to visit the event in Screggan, Co Offaly
