A lot of people are understandably nervous about the performance of AfD in Germany's elections, but I'm heartened by what I've seen so far, especially by how well the Greens and Linke are doing in some areas. There's no simple swing to the right - more a decline in support for centrism.

One of the best things ever committed to videotape. If you haven’t seen it, treat yourself.
50th anniversary of I, Claudius today. If you ever want to see how a great TV director transcends the limitations of the format, get it watched. Herbert Wise was a maestro.

I am actually in favour of people being able to learn and change publicly. But we need to understand Sheeran isn't doing that. He's attempting to walk his way through the rhetorical rocks back to the smooth path of saying nothing.

Sandy Peggie's daughter is crying about her hateful mother having an awful time. Living it up on holiday, hosted by JKR, adored by the press. Not a hard life at all.
Dr Beth Upton is the one who had an awful time. Leaving the country, hiding away and being vilified and attacked wherever she goes.

I've had queer (cis) friends say that they "just want to enjoy the new adaptation uncomplicatedly", but the sad truth is that that is not possible—and never has been.

I'll shout it from the rooftops once again: Starve her of oxygen. LET 👏 THE 👏 IP 👏 DIE 👏. Grieve it, then let it go COMPLETELY.
I'll keep saying because too many people continue to not listen. But I'm done being polite about it.

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough.

First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation;

Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers;

Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

They say trans rights went too far or trans people are asking too much but really its oops we let these untermenschen believe they deserved a modicum of dignity and now we can’t get em to go back in the closet

They really have just been convinced what we are “asking for“ is too much and unreasonable. That Some Level of transphobia is only natural and we are ungrateful for accepting that. They are actually kinda pissed they let us have rights for a while and believe we deserve them so memory hole it

Basically people getting mad at trans people when we say we won’t vote for any politician opposing trans rights no matter the “worse“ alternative are revealing they actually never took trans rights seriously or see them as worthy of any defending. Just extra “being nice“ rights for decadent times
They get so pissy about us not accepting trans sports bans and the like cause they really have bought in to the idea trans rights are new and went too far and we are asking “too much“, despite actually losing rights right now. They see trans rights as a luxury
It frustrates me so deeply that cis people simply cannot concieve of transphobia as something serious.

Some people should be afraid to speak their minds and I'd very much like to go back to a time when I didn't have to listen to them vomiting their minds all over national media every single fucking day, crying how they've been fucking silenced.

What matters to them is the feeling they get when they find the tough compromise between the sides, not what that compromise involves or who it hurts. It's enough that it *is* a compromise. That's the buzz. It's like solving a puzzle, except the puzzle is how to kick the shit out of trans people.

They fundamentally do not believe it's possible for their side to win on its own merits, and it's that which makes them "the good guys", because they will even listen to the people who hate them. And the right absolutely knows this and has been exploiting it for decades.

I am deadly serious about this btw. Decades of compromise-as-political-savvy have legitimately brainwashed career politicians into believing, as a central plank of their moral calculus, that you *must* achieve consensus with opponents in order for anything to "count".

This is absolutely true. Centrist politicians have essentially fetishised "tough choices" into being an end in itself. If you don't have to throw someone under the bus to achieve some broader strategic goal (even if you're not certain what that goal is), it's not grown-up politics.
i really think democratic politicians are all just addicted to making compromises. they can't get enough! they would broker a compromise between jeffrey dahmer and his victim to let dahmer eat just a forearm

the republicans are wide open on several fronts, historically unpopular president, unpopular war, record high gas. any dem throwing trans people under the bus at this moment is doing it because they want to. not like they need to, do they. even if it worked as a vote winner, which it doesn't

Well, “we will drag you all down with us”, when lots of folks are facing even more danger today than the trans community is from Talarico Dems (how about those being held in concentration camps, sent to Eswatini or Gitmo, or killed by ICE?), is kind of being an asshole according to my worldview.
