HELLO FRIENDS

I’ve been away a lot looking after my old mum - still am in fact - sorting her troubles has left me little time to work. So if you like framed vintage jigsaws and stuff, please visit anyoldtat.bigcartel.com.

I am against the gentrification of advent calendars. They should cost no more than £2 and either contain chocolate or just have a picture in it.

A rather splendid Brian Bolland ad for a Palitoy take on Darth Vader’s T.I.E. Fighter, from Dec 1st 1979’s Look-In. I’ve never seen this particular Bolland take on Star Wars merchandise before, and his ads for the franchise during the period are always fun.

Accepting my MacArthur award: "Hey Uri Geller--you suck shit!!"

Kelly really goes above and beyond this week looking at how the omnipresent 1980s Dianetics TV commercials fit *perfectly* into Ronald Reagan's America full of anti-intellectualism, mental health denialism, and the logics of a brutally-enforced austerity-based individualist "self-help." A must-read.

'Performed if God permit'

We mustn't forget how dangerous travel was.
Particularly coach travel. You really were taking a risk. People died of hypothermia on coaches, quite literally froze to death.
