This is the scene outside Bard high school this morning — FBI agents and armed soldiers acting as if children going to school on a Friday morning is some national security threat.

From J6 insurrection to Schmitt's humiliation, there is a straight line. The latter covered up the former to confuse understanding of Trump's treason. A THREAD.
1. Let's not say goodbye to Eric Schmitt just yet.

His story is about more than a power-mad senator falling on his face. It's part of a larger story about the Republicans defending the leader of an insurrection against the United States.

It would be better if the headline here were about a dipshit auditor who made a wild accusation about a large budget error and turned out to be wrong, like that dipshit U.S. senator was
Auditor Finds $52M Error In Budget of Beleaguered Housing Authority · City Cast DC
D.C.’s affordable housing agency has grappled for years with its finances. This week, an auditor found another multi-million dollar mistake officials could not explain.

I wrote about how Trump is treating presidential power like it's his own possession and using it to punish blue states — but also about how at least he's promised lots of cash for all of us. www.ctinsider.com/columnist/ar...

Last week I presented to ODCA colleagues on using an LLM to research legislative sources faster.

After answering a prompt, the LLM offered to write “ODCA-style” audit criteria. I said yes.

Then LLM offered to write up a whole audit finding. I said yes.

I had provided no facts, mind you.
Identifying vacant property. Screening 911 and 311 calls for quality. Improving benefit payments.

Here's how D.C. government wants to use AI, and where concerns are creeping in.

How the D.C. Government Wants to Use AI
Leaders say AI could assist the workers who keep D.C. running. But concerns over job displacement and privacy remain.

Congratulations to these local news outlets.

And curses upon the Washington Post, which serves its few remaining readers some goddamned videos of right-leaning whiteboys sharing billionaire-friendly opinions

I see two possible explanations for this text message:

1. Anti-democratic forces that control the government are using phishing tactics to deceive American voters

2. Democratic Party leadership remains unfathomably bad at political communication

Washington, DC area is considered one of the best places to work in the country.

Indeed ranked DC the second-best city in 2026, based on career opportunities, pay, job quality, & more. 👏💼

We're proud to keep the region connected to the jobs & opportunities that make it such a great place to work.

Please let's not forget that DC United is in the middle of a 50% sales tax abatement incentive and only have to pay 25% of its real estate tax obligation. The first five years of land occupancy was 100% abatement of both, and the abatements phase out. Which is obvi why they want more DC money now.

I mean, it's already mostly happened in the lower ranks, but this is symbolic of what the Trump Administration has meant for the DMV: an assault on Black influence and opportunity not seen since Woodrow Wilson.

Welp, there you have it folks. The National Guard is not here to help us. They’re here to provide cover for extrajudicial kidnappings and to promote growing authoritarianism. #FreeDC

Her: Aren’t you supposed to be here to help?

The national guard: Nope.

I love that in this case that the AI hallucinations were filed by lawyers working for Deutsche Bank not the pro se Appellant, and Mr. Douglas got to have a little bit of an underdog "screw you" moment echoed by the court.

During the GW Bush presidency—a disaster in its own right—I would have dived into a story like this, hunting for lessons to be learned.

The Trump presidency is so stupid that I probably won’t ever click this link. Don’t put a bigoted television personality in charge of the defense department. 🤷‍♂️
Exclusive: Prior to his resignation, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll took his concerns about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's leadership directly to President Trump, Nancy A. Youssef, Missy Ryan, and Michael Scherer report:
Dan Driscoll’s Parting Shot
The Army secretary told Trump about problems in the Army and his friction with Hegseth, then resigned.

I’m in a (another?) fucking-burn-it-down-then mood over the Supreme Court’s decision, which boils down to this: The blatantly illegal East Wing ballroom project is NOT a “case… arising under this Constitution [or] the Laws of the United States” within the meaning of Article III.

The square dance at Pierce Mill on Sat was hours of pure joy. Sadly at 10 pm HSI and US Marshals showed up in cars with blacked out plates But then a dozen+ people stepped away for an hour to document and ensure an Uber driver was not taken by them. So proud of DC. #FreeDC
