I'm convinced that there's been a concerted effort among C-Suite types, especially in tech, to keep the music playing until after the midterms so they can blame Democrats for the crash
Billionaire Ray Dalio warned that AI is a “classic bubble” that is nearing a bursting point thanks to rising interest rates and the need to turn wealth into cash.

You are not just reading a book to your baby.

You are teaching your baby in that moment about how books are held, how page are turned, which direction they are turned in, how to look critically at information.

MOST CRITICALLY THIS.
And you are teaching the baby that you care for them, that they deserve your time and attention, that you enjoy their company, that they are a person and not a series of tedious tasks and obligations

If you have ever read a book to a baby, you will realize it's not a linear experience.

The baby wants to turn pages backward, wants to ask questions (if they're old enough), wants to examine the pages and get really excited if they can say "bear!" even if the word "bear!" is not on the page.
It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting.

Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

I have two clients wrapping up their contracts who I just found out aren't renewing, and a possible third in December. anyone out there - ideally in A) Portland or B) the arts, but I've kind of done everything tbh - looking for a grantwriter with 20+ years experience?

lol, have we already reached the "pathologizing completely rational behavior to avoid addressing its actual cause" phase already?

It's giving "drapetomania."

We told our American college flatmate that no electricity is used on St Brigid's Day and flipped the trip switch for added effect. When he noticed that other flats nearby seemed to have lights on, we said they must be Protestant.
Lookit. Deep down every Irish person wants to spin some yank a yarn that gets cited as fact in some factual text.

We told an Irish American girl that when the Muppets was released in Ireland, Kermit the Frog was called Dermot the Frog because Cromwell’s son was a Kermit.

I read that Ossoff told some young people that 'despair is a luxury' and that some people are mad. I think that it's incorrect to say that it is a 'luxury' but I'm with Audre Lorde who said that it is in fact a 'tool of your enemies.'

Look, this is sad, but it's been the playbook with every public good for 40+ years: make it shit via underfunding and putting arseholes in charge, then go "the private sector would do it better" and sell it off to venture capitalists.

The deployment of National Guard troops into cities has been so normalized that it barely merits a mention in the press or among the public anymore. D.C. remains occupied, Memphis is occupied, so is New Orleans... It's incredible to me.

Transphobic rot has truly spread and taken root in the minds of the media because they're trying to make "social contagion" stick for every issue from menopausal women who want hormone treatments to the right-wing demographic panic.
