While rightwing media nods approvingly at the prejudiced outcry in Piddington, a RNLI station has to close because of white British thuggery and threats. This is where the constantly toxic obsession with immigration leads. To racist, flag-wielding vigilantism that ruins this country for everyone.

Last time I was here it was an athletics stadium. Now it’s an athletics system with people playing football in the middle of it.

They’re a bit sharper than us so far unfortunately

Both UK & Denmark believe in universal healthcare, but principles are not outcomes.

Denmark treats health as whole-society issue: housing, education, inequality, prevention.

UK tries to treat its way out with NHS alone. Results speak.
Denmark versus UK: which country gets more health for their money?
Britain and Denmark both have health services free at the point of use, but Denmark is healthier. Why? Its not just about money

Economists, think tanks and commentators like Jim O'Neill on #bbcpm keep saying UK welfare spending is "out of control." The BBC reports it uncritically. The Resolution Foundation, one of the UK's most respected economic research bodies, looked at the actual data. Thread. 🧵
Jim O'Neill, ex Goldman's banker, is part of the problem. Regularly prognosticates on what's best for the financial markets, & now what Burnham's policies in govt should be, on #r4today, but never mentions the restraint on corporate environmental externalities we need to prevent climate catastrophe
It's incredible to me that even Thatcher recognised the approaching climate catastrophe in 1988, and since then, not only have we not prevented further global heating from being baked in, but we have actually accelerated it because of fosssil fuel lobbying and capitalism.

Listening to my generation talk about the 90s the way the previous generation talked about the 70s is tiresome. No that wasnt 'back when movies were good' or 'music still meant something'. There's loads of great shit coming out now and there was loads of slop back then. You just miss being young.

But Religious Education – or Religion, Values, and Ethics as it is in Wales – is vital for the development of any child.
