I suppose I might as well make a post explaining who I am and what I do! Hello, I'm Nina. I'm nearly 40, live in Norwich (formerly a Londoner). I write about #disabiltiy and #access issues, and my blog can be found here:

WRITERS OF BLUESKY

Please tell me how to get past the ADHD/anxiety freeze of transferring my book content from notesapp /literal notebooks onto Scrivener 😭

Or else I'll have to try and publish the world's first notes app bullet point novel...

The wheelchair ramp that was stolen from my dad's property in London (N14) Friday night cost me almost £400 in 2016. A decade later its like-for-like replacement is going to cost me just under £700. The police closed the case in under 24hrs. I am just DONE with this year.

Last night some lowlife scum (presumably with access to a large van) stole my metal wheelchair ramp from outside my dad's property in Southgate, London. It was custom made to fit his porch, and left in place when I moved to ensure I could visit independently. It'll be ~£400 for a replacement.

Does anyone else get unreasonably anxious about the prospect of choking when they see pro footballers chewing gum on the pitch?? #fifaworldcup

If you use patch-based meds, from pain control to HRT, please take care in the heatwave. Between sweating & sunscreen they can peel off far more easily than usual & potentially stick to other people or be picked up/ingested by young kids or dogs. Use surgical tape or Tegaderm.

In therapy limbo once more, because my #PTSD is from the wrong form of trauma for the therapy that my local NHS MH services offer. Can't even get abused right, wooop. (I find out Thursday if they can accept me anyways, otherwise square one again.)

The upcoming #disability benefits cuts to u-22s are really upsetting me now. I was on them from 18, and they helped me recover and get my life together after everything fell apart at 17. Without that space to recover, I'd never have gone to university. I wouldn't be here.

My personal favourite David Attenborough interview was when he was grilled by a 5yr old girl and he was absolutely brilliant with her. #DavidAttenborough100

10 hours on trains this weekend for a ~2hr (if I’m lucky) gig. Plus £200 on hotels because access needs mean I can’t just crash with friends. It’s not the Canadian indie-folk band's fault their London show isn’t accessible but maybe we need to prioritise funding to venues that are.

Just a reminder that Thursday's #election is not a General Election therefore if you vote Reform for your local council they will be unable to:
❌ Stop the boats
But will be able to:
☑️Close down care homes
☑️Slash the SEN budget
☑️ Bicker endlessly among themselves instead of working

Managed by a miracle to get tickets for Manics/Suede at the O2, which now makes disabled people jump through extra hoops via the Nimbus Card. I'm still not sure how a middleman that WE have to pay for makes things easier when they can deny our accommodations just as arbitrarily.

Happy #RecordStoreDay to those who celebrate. Who's been to their local indie vinyl emporium already??

I'm having a conversation with the Royal Albert Hall about their merch stand for artists being in a completely wheelchair inaccessible area. If you've experienced this please reply or DM me, as more case studies would help my aim to get the area relocated! #access #disability

I've never heard my dad apologise to anyone in my whole life. That's not normal, is it?

I finally wrote something else, and quelle surprise it's about buses and wheelchair access. Again. #disability #access #disabilityrights #disabledbloggers
Why Are Bus Companies Still Discriminating Against Wheelchair Users?
For a short while I felt like things might be improving – there was a period in late 2019/early 2020 where I noticed drivers on my frequent routes were more helpful when asked to intervene, b…

The most galling thing about #chronicfatigue is when people say things like "I'd love to stay in bed all day!". Well I'd love to have a choice in the matter! I don't have "lazy days", I have days when I can't move from exhaustion. This isn't luxury it's a prison.

Over on the hellsite, trans quiz contestants are being mocked and slandered. I'm so grateful that the actual quiz community is inclusive and won't stand for bigotry. The berks who make such comments about quiz show players on TV seem to not realise that quiz is a non-gendered activity...

Finally finishing season 3 of #TedLasso tonight, needed something easy. I have to admit though, I'm finding Juno Temple a bit distracting despite trying never to focus on body size. She's so skinny, she reminds one of those little Italian Greyhounds.

Seriously though, it's nearly the end of #FreeWillsMonth so if you don't have one in place, it's a good time to get yours sorted.

This #WorldMentalHealthDay maybe let's talk a bit about how Mental Illness isn't a Tik Tok trend. It's not and never has been fashionable. It ruins lives, families, dreams. Lots of us are only still here because we chose NOT to keep trying to fit in. #MentalHealthMatters
