yes there were little kids watching Buddy (2026) with their parents and yes they walked out, but what's weird is they came back, too

i think the fun thing is even if AI proves incapable of replacing anyone's job, i doubt public opinion will improve much on it, bc they made it clear their first automation targets aren't jobs, they're the things people would like to do instead of working
Its undeniably true that people who have decades ahead of them aren't very enthusiastic about a technology that could kill their future career prospects.
People want a future to look forward to, but all of the promises of job automation & AI offer nothing but a bleak future for working class youth.
"Today, 52% of Americans say they are more concerned than excited about the increased use of AI in daily life – up from 37% in 2021. "

Now THAT'S the power of an actively-hostile marketing approach, baby!

Sorry I got to the "What if AI dissapeared tomorrow" part and felt such an overwhelming wave of peace and comfort at the concept that I didn't care to read the rest.

I enjoyed The Odyssey (2026) but I have one historical nitpick. The phrase “Jiminy Christmas” is a minced oath for “Jesus Christ”. As the story is set around 1200 B.C. it is unlikely that Odysseus would have said the phrase even once, let alone the dozens of times he says it in the film

I do not wish to debate you on the truth of the point re Plantner, but hear me now, educational attainment is not a proxy for class. Yes whole careers have been made arguing it is. BUT PLEASE HEAR ME NOW. EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT IS NOT A PROXY FOR WORKING CLASS. JUST STOP.

Several students wrote of the moral confusion implicit in a college that promotes AI and says don't cheat but makes it really, really easy to cheat. One said they don't pay attention to AI policies because they don't think the college really wants to know what's going on. 9/

This is important because if we approach the problem as one of misinformation rather than racism, we’re going to spend a lot of time debunking things they’re not actually concerned about, rather than addressing the racism and protecting the targets of it.

But yeah, I don’t think they genuinely believe some secret group is somehow throwing the election in Los Angeles; they believe the “right” voters preferred him, so he should win.

a thing i like about Boots Riley is he clearly likes twists where the characters find out about secret monsters, but he avoids falling into the trap of ever doing "a small group of secret momsters control capitalism" like the monsters are a thing humans have become or been made into

i think Boots Riley makes movies with the assumption that his politics are at odds on some base level with the form of filmmaking, though I Love Boosters may be his attempt to break out of that constraint
