If you apply this line of argument consistently, the first thing you should do is ban civil servants and teachers from elected office and party political positions. Because then they're openly expressing or subscribing to views that can make people uncomfortable.

I guess it's kind of hard to view the dismissal of one grublike phrenologist as a major hit to free speech after major American universities have in the past year banned the use of words and eliminated entire departments in the hopes of pleasing the senile president

When it comes to signing open letters about academic freedom, “We have to take a principled stand!” doesn’t work if there have been loads of other much more obvious and serious instances of violations of academic freedom to which you said absolutely nothing.

I wonder how many of the academics currently handwringing and signing open letters because a racist and eugenicist is in trouble expressed any support for the UT professor denied tenure without justification or criticized vetting of more and more researchers by the security services in France.

It's a hyper-individualistic view of academic freedom in which the "special boys"do all the junk science they want. While the real core of it is self-regulation and jugment by your peers according to the standards of your discipline. There's a whole social/collective aspect to it as a safeguard!

Oui. Il est urgent d’arrêter de faire référence à ce graphique salaires des enseignants / smic qui est trompeur, et dont la conclusion logique est qu’il faudrait baisser le smic pour revaloriser le métier d’enseignant.
Il n'y aurait absolument aucune difficulté à situer l'évolution de ces salaires moyens par exemple à l'intérieur de déciles de salaire dans la population, mais non, on continue cette indécence de le rapporter au SMIC.
Le salaire en fin de carrière des enseignants actuels est désormais inférieur au salaire en début de carrière des enseignants de 1980 (relativement au salaire minimum).

A propos demographic decline... I travel a fair bit through Europe with kids and I don’t know how many times @floriangkern.bsky.social has heard me saying that I am convinced Europeans are speedily losing the habit of seeing kids around and interacting with them. Now this.

Je vois passer pas mal de discussions sur "l'IA" et je pense qu'il faut définir ce que l'on entend par IA avant de discuter plus avant, car ce terme finit par avoir une acception très large (et même trop large !) et des domaines d'applications très divers.
