Not only the current situation in the U.S., but just kinda generally... as a kid, I took it as fact that people were generally pretty smart and competent, especially in fields that seem to require it. But it's not (always) true. The world is so much dumber than I realized.

This is why universities shouldn't be so bloody ridiculously uncritical in forcing gAI on faculty, staff and students.
