A very on point analysis on the nature of fascism. Read it;
I want to expand on this in a short thread.

Fascism sucks.

It is also not going away: it is an effectively permanent part of modern representative politics because it is an effectively permanent part of human nature.

We have to be prepared to push back against it, basically forever.
That said, I think at this point, we can conclude that fascism is a latent political force in basically every country, to a greater or lesser degree and so you need to be thinking, "what if my country goes fascist? what if a neighboring country does?" and plan for how to avoid or deal with that.

Hey, guys, when the librarians get pissed about the destruction of books, it’s time to put those listening ears on.

Because we are very comfortable with the idea that books are tools that can be retired. What’s happening right now is not that.

The year is 2228. You and your team of netrunners must infiltrate the Hormuz Containment Zone in order to locate the lost al-Thani #$BTC keys.

Known threats include Grok U-Boat Mk. 1488s, a rogue superintelligence purporting to be the Hidden Imam, & a mysterious figure known only as "Count Binface".
The year is 2028. The Strait of Hormuz is still closed.

Mandatory reading, brilliant post by Cory, as usual.
In the summer of 2013, two esoteric, technical, incredibly important texts were published within weeks of one another: the first is the Snowden leaks, which revealed a system of global, pervasive digital surveillance.

Cancer treatment. It has gotten so much better.
Surgery too, actually.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

I should be clear that the architecture of Bluesky makes it the social media place I most like to be. I'm not on social media to be an influencer or instigator; I want to hang out with folks and have an enjoyable time. This place delivers on that. I hope it continues to do so for a long time.

Is it me or has Instagram gone full fascist? I mean, somehow my feed suddenly switched from lesbian comedians to brutally racist 'which way Western man' garbage, with a sprinkle of manosphere sexism, transphobia and good old antivax science denial for dessert. WTF just happened?
