This is a powerful story from a trans Texan (who's also quite a talented independent journalist).

I've been arguing that trans people have the right to be upset with Talarico, and I think we do. This is the case for vote for him anyway, eloquently made, and by someone with the standing to make it.
I’m a Texan trans kid who almost died because of Ken Paxton. The world should know what he’s done.

This was very difficult for me to write, but given what's at stake, I cannot bear to stay silent about what I went through at Paxton's hands.

He must not be rewarded for what he's done to trans kids.

Regardless of Talarico’s recent statements on trans people, Paxton cannot be rewarded for the extreme suffering he’s inflicted on me and tens of thousands of Texan trans kids.

JKR is alive and very rich and hating trans people is her whole deal so you can just not f with her or her work. So much art in the world that isn’t being made by someone who is trying to erase my children.

Same with gay rights. When I explain to the under-30 set just how bad it was back in the day I can tell that it just doesn't compute. Which is good but also bad because they don't think it can go back there.

Xers who perpetuate "there was no hate in my time" have a special place in hell.
I genuinely think that one of the biggest feminist challenges right now is that feminism was so successful that a lot of people can’t even imagine what the world was like before it.
A sign of societal progress is that both of my children (now 25 and 19) were utterly baffled when I explained that the title Ms. was a controversial political statement when I was a kid. It’s completely normal to them, not worthy of comment or even something to be thought about

People getting angry at Gerry Duggan and Kelly Sue DeConnick for being willing to defend Ed Brubaker: I get it, but at the same time, "people stand up for their close friends" is a pretty major sticking point for most of humanity and that isn't going to change

I don't think it's effective praxis to declare something was never good, as clearly the True Fans don't agree and they're the people who need to be reached on the level of "this person is a monster and there's no ethical way to consume this."

Purity is always a mug's game
What happens a lot on social media is when someone (Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman now Ed Brubaker) has allegations thrown at them people tend to leap out the woodwork saying "their work was never good."
That helps no one as it's irrelevant. What matters is their actions and what they did.

"maybe Scrooge was right" Scrooge wasn't real! He was invented specifically for the purpose of being wrong!
"Maybe Scrooge was right-" he was not. He was a miserly asshole facing the same demise as his former business partners if he didn't make some serious changes with how he treats the people around him. That's the point.

I both greatly dislike AI use and find the idea of a labeler where people on here are spending their time playing AI Detective based on vibes so off-putting that I can't really find the words.

I am trying to avoid AI & avoid boosting AI but I am not letting it steal all of my fucking time.

I have to conclude that people who want to watch the new HP series are grasping at straws. JKR spends her billions erasing trans people from public life. She wants it to be illegal and unsafe for trans people to pee anywhere but their private homes.
Rowling did not make a statement. She replied to a trans woman in the comments section on Twitter.

Rowling did not say anything supportive, she basically said “you were so mentally ill that the only way to cure you was surgery and hormones.” She notably did not say the woman in question is a woman

I like to point out that "patriarchy" doesn't actually mean "rule by men", it means "rule by fathers". The nuclear family is the fundamental unit of patriarchy; it's the whole thing in microcosm.
it really is incredible once you see how much of this current moment of fascism is powered by the sentiment that i should be allowed to rule my child's life like an unquestioned king from cradle to grave

And because international students don’t qualify for most financial aid, private colleges depend on those tuition dollars to fund students who do qualify. The follow on effects from this will be devastating.
There will probably be far fewer foreign students on college campuses nationwide this fall following the Trump administration’s crackdown on international visas.

A new report predicts international enrollment will decrease by 9.5 percent this fall.

A report released this week forecasts a decline of about 111,000 international students at U.S. colleges and universities.

Pretty much anyone reading this knows anything Rowling-related is funding a moral panic that history will judge as both deadly and ridiculous. This is a good thread about how to talk to normal people who haven’t gotten the news yet, or who don’t think their dollars and eyeballs really matter.
here, then, is what to tell people: rowling has decided to make eliminating trans people from public space her life’s work. as such, of every dollar you spend on wizarding world material, some portion will go toward that goal; this will not change. but whether you participate is up to you

I am begging you not to believe gazillionaire baseball owners when they tell you Skubal going to the Dodgers means we need a salary cap. Competitive balance is not the reason they want a salary cap.

They just want to spend less, and with more predictability, on total payroll. That is all.
