This shows that, for all his alleged understanding of the working class, Platner either didn’t clock, or didn’t care, that a woman’s ability to control her reproductive choices is, among other things, absolutely a worker issue bc of all the terrible ways employers treat pregnant ppl and new mothers

Folks, no one has a RIGHT to higher office. OK? You aren't "canceling" anyone when you decide NOT TO SUPPORT THEIR QUEST FOR MORE POWER. Please let's be SERIOUS. This is not what is meant by "no one is disposable." I'm begging people to focus and use your brains. That man can still make a LIVING.

One thing I would love is if, when a straight white guy “sees the light” and joins the left, he would volunteer for a community group and like knock doors for someone who’d been on the left for ages instead of immediately wanting to be the candidate. It’d be like a litmus test for if they’re serious

Detainees at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in New Jersey are going without air conditioning during an extreme heat wave.

Families say the AC is off in one of the housing units, potentially leaving hundreds of people trapped in sweltering heat over 100 degrees.

6 years ago today Fox News helpfully distilled some of the demands of the Movement for Black Lives... Curious that they could figure out the demands but that white dude bros on the so called Left say that it's unclear... LOL

Something I’ve glimpsed during the NBA finals and the World Cup are how much we need—and how much cities thrive on—experiences of shared joy. The understanding of how important this is (which might simply be the state of not being a sociopath) should be a big priority in 2028.

Yes to all of this. And all the while, knowing no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be getting enough protein
is it just me or does being a daughter, mother, sister, partner, friend, employee, community member, volunteer, while keeping a clean home, clean body, healthy, saving for the future, fixing current problems, managing schedules, finding joy but also rest, feel like too much for every single day?

There are people still living who fought — and watched their compatriots be murdered — for the passage of this act and to attempt to democratize America. To see it completed felled in the span of their OWN lifetime is just absolutely devastating.

My latest is a reflection on the cycle of dread, disaster, and temporary reprieves we’re all navigating, what that cycle is doing to us, and how we can avoid losing ourselves to it.

This edition also includes a roundup of must-read pieces that have helped me think about this moment.

The fact that Trump is going to oral arguments to pressure the justices to acquiesce to his attempted nullification of a constitutional amendment and create a stateless class for the first time since the civil war, illustrates what is really at the core of the Trump project and it isn’t tariffs.

Almost every reason people have for defunding or abolishing ICE is also a reason to defund or abolish the police, yet many people who are rightly calling for action against ICE would never come close to doing to the same for police. But this fight goes beyond just ICE. ICE represents a larger issue.

The people who'll tell you today's murder victim in Minnesota shouldn't have turned up to a protest carrying a gun are the same people who said Kyle Rittenhouse was perfectly entitled to do the same thing.

A lot of the "training" police receive is about getting away with harming/killing. They use Graham v. Connor and the idea of "reasonableness". They're trained to claim to feel unsafe, threatened, and/or that they saw or believed there was a weapon. Yet Dems think "training" is the solution for ICE.

Once again: Focusing on their lack of training is a mistake. With "better training," their violence would simply cost more, and they would still kill whoever they wanted, but make it look more professional — to make people more comfortable, the way many of you are at ease with local police violence.

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?
