vis-a-vis the "table flippers" ttrpg discourse, I think the issue that's being danced around is this;

For the game to be fun, you all have to work together, and whether or not someone is really doing their part is not something you can determine with a checklist. It's a judgment call.

Ahmed Soliman has been missing for six days.

ICE says it is “not responsible” for this, even though they forcibly expelled him to an authoritarian country he’d never even been to.

I want to know what the fuck the creators of this show think the point is.
Netflix has announced a new reality series titled ‘THE NEW STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT’.

The series follows 30 participants who enter a real prison and are randomly assigned as guards or prisoners. They must see if they conform to the roles or if morality wins.

“Carceral reality TV thrives on the negative: toxic relationships and emotional, psychological, and physical violence. It often leans into racist stereotypes that depict Black and brown people as terrifying, uneducated, and violent.”

'Imagination,' the operative word, to me. Our world is a product of imagination + will.

so is DEI an all-powerful institution running rampant throughout society or is DEI a pitiably weak enemy that can easily be crushed with the accomulation of power? and is there a pithy explanation of this phenomenon from a prominent midcentury semiotician i can use as shorthand
I see the NYT is still platforming 'dei crushed white men' bullsh*t. Here it's buried in a 'why rural themed pop culture' is so popular in a piece written by a Princeton grad who lives in New York City.

Really truly a moment of oh you're not so big now that you have to deal with a trans women in a country that doesn't have the UK's absolutely unhinged laws huh Lilly Wachowski absolutely fucking rules

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
Whether intentional or not, what @lillywachowski.bsky.social has said is *precisely* what needs to be said, at *precisely* the time it needs to be said. This puts Rowling on her back foot at the worst possible time for the HBO series. Brava, Lilly!
Eye-wateringly stupid defence from Rowling’s team here - ‘She does not support legal actions aimed at harming transgender people.’ - Really? So that £70,000 towards the bathroom ban was by accident? The JKR Women’s Fund was made by an impersonator? At least have the spine to admit you want us dead

This is the bottom line. At some point, the actual veracity of their wild claims about the technology cease to matter; the tech oligarchy are openly (even proudly) proclaiming and demonstrating an extremely hostile attitude towards the rest of humanity.
I do not believe that these guys are about to summon a world-ending superconsciousness from Nvidia graphics cards. But they either believe they can or want me to believe they believe they can. So I think "fuck them" is the only rational response

At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry

But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job
