I write Field Notes on evidence literacy and honest health stories. Systems over willpower, primary sources only. Food-industry insider turned GLP-1 patient. Experience, not advice.
Seems like the Medicare Bridge program is working. I take this medication, and for a lot of us the barrier was never willpower, it was cost and access. Watching that door open for Medicare patients is a systems story, and it gives me real hope. #GLP1 #Zepbound

There was a period of my life when I said "I did my own research" and meant it as a badge of honor. New Field Note, read aloud, on the difference between that and actually doing it.

Just podcast on Substack! I tell my own weight-and-GLP-1 story, and take it apart the way I’ll take apart my guests’: who the villain really was, and what I found when I moved the pieces. No before-and-after photos. No advice. Just the story, and an honest look underneath.
My body works: a weight-and-GLP-1 story
I spent years selling the willpower story. Here's what happened when I stopped believing it.

Perhaps this indication will help guide researchers to explore more of the genetic expressions/implications of obesity, looking at pre-clinical foreshadows, showing up long before folks see the clinical manifestations after childhood.
Although the drugs are not approved for use in children under 12 years, clinical guidelines allow the medications to be used for obesity in children as young as eight years old in certain cases. 94% of the children prescribed GLP-1s had severe obesity.

“GLP-1 agonists work by imitating a natural hormone (GLP-1) created in the small intestine in response to food intake, but there are GLP-1 receptors not only in the stomach, small intestine, colon, and pancreas — to aid in digestion — but also in the heart, kidneys, lungs, and brain.”
GLP-1 medications help millions manage diabetes — but could they also treat opioid addiction or slow Alzheimer’s? That’s what researchers at our member institutions are working to find out. This is what it looks like when academic medicine #WorksForAmerica.
Could popular weight-loss drugs help treat addiction and dementia?
