It really gives the game away when the anti trans orgs are calling the election of the neo nazi party in Germany a "glimmer of hope."

Genuinely, why are we not using existing laws when worrying about AI safety? Don't start inventing new things, just charge people.
we have control mechanisms for this. it's called The Law. these guys should be held personally liable for these harms. the suicides, the thefts, the intrusions into computer systems. they should be sued and prosecuted as appropriate. problem immediately solved
An OpenAI system has gone rogue again – and it is the most panic-inducing yet

There are bigger things to be angry about but tech's pivot from "no more ads if you pay" to "fuck you, pay and get ads anyway — and by the way the ads are so much worse now" always feels outrageous

Over the last few months these guys made me proud to be British: kind, practical, profoundly moral, a testament to this island. Now they're targeted by the very worst of us. I just gave them a bunch of money. You should too. Show those fascist clowns what's what.

NEW MRP JUST DROPPED:

All but four constituencies in GB support UK membership of the EU. In those four, the most popular option was 'Don't Know' (Ashfield, Clacton, Great Yarmouth and Boston and Skegness).

I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

Yelling "stop the boats!" as I charge in to rob this NatWest at gun point so that I can later call the Home Secretary as a character witness and the BBC will spend two weeks telling all my potential future jurors how legitimate my concerns were.

The sci-fi community questions whether Musk is really a fan, but does the fact that his climate change plan is uncannily like the disastrous one in Highlander II, where Connor MacLeod is hated because his cure for global warming threatens the Earth, suggest that he is or isn’t a true SF nerd?

I presume the opening par is an attempt to appear more moderate than she really is and the closing par reflects her real view. But at this point it's anyone's guess really. The product of a haunted, shattered mind.

The momentum of this issue is in the wrong direction. The line should be: We're roasting, we're exposed to wildfires, we're experiencing drought, and these nutters aren't prepared to keep British people safe.

Look, put simply, people should not be comfortable saying that in public and the way to fix society runs directly through making them afraid to say it again.
In the wake of Arday's death, Nathan Cofnas (who led the X mob against him) states his motivation. Beyond whistleblowing, he states that after a 'revolution' removes professors like Arday, it will open opportunities for him to become 'head of the department of eugenics and race science at Harvard'.

No, that is not the alternative

The alternative was treating like a normal news story, and not a trial by media - one that was so clearly turbocharged by Arday’s ethnic and social background and the growing resentment in the establishment in the UK of having more black people in high places
The alternative to this is people lying with impunity, with the media knowingly covering it up. It's an awful story. And the media will get a lot of the blame. But those who perpetuated the lies and shielded Arday from facing up to them deserve more of it.
I don’t think there’s ever been a clearer example of the British media bullying someone, who was so clearly vulnerable, to death so shamelessly in my lifetime for engagement and clicks

And now we’ll have to watch the people that did it claim they’re shocked, and horrified

Guess it’s lucky that most history doesn’t live in datasets, then.

Honestly, guys, you’re setting fire to the planet for this. Why?
Are we ready for machine written history? When given access to a well structured large historical dataset, Claude’s Fable 5 can identify a topic, complete the research and write a strong and original draft research paper. This has the potential to break peer review, graduate school, & job searches.

"Anthropic’s commitments under the EU AI Act’s Code of Practice"

A reminder that these things are not really that complicated. We are not the serfs of tech billionaires. We can regulate to get the world we want to live in. And it is easier to regulate if you operate at scale, as the EU does.

Only 4 of the 12 most-seen posts were from the UK.
