I have a theory that they want to find a way out of the trade war with Canada because it is hurting them in certain swing states, and threatening Europe here rather than Canada maybe supports that. But as with everything, who knows!

BREAKING: Republicans JUST blocked Democrats' bill that would have ENDED Trump's tariffs on Canada and his ability to keep starting these trade wars.

This would have saved Americans THOUSANDS of dollars.

But Republicans chose once again to put Trump's approval over the American people.

It is...?funny?...that there is so much pearl-clutching in Canada about tapering any exports to the US, when the US President is, quite literally, begging us to stop exporting to them.

18 months ago, a few of us were suggesting that Canada should join the EU - bsky.app/profile/ubis... - and even though it turned out the idea was popular in Canada - bsky.app/profile/ubis... - there was still widespread ridicule of the idea from politics experts. Now it's (sort of) happening...
#Trump is not hiding what he is trying to do to #Canada, starting with 25% tariffs. Canadians have to stop thinking about the USA as a misguided friend right now. Work with #Mexico and other American countries for sure, but also with the #EU, maybe even apply to join. This isn't a joke any more.
Every truly Canadian news outlet needs to lead with a clear, no-bullshit headline:

“Trump Threatens to Ruin and then Annex Canada”.

Will the US-owned Postmedia papers do it? No. Can we hope the rest speak clearly?

So hear me out. Trump wants to lower interest rates so dollars are relatively cheap, making US denominated assets (like exports) relatively cheap, thus boosting exports because people like to buy cheap things, and so this bleat is actually internally coherent if you squint.

Tariffs are taxes on the American people. They increase the cost of everything. Rising prices especially hit hard in my home state of Ohio, the largest exporter of goods to Canada in the Great Lakes region. Our Great Lakes economy is the third largest in the world, amounting to over $6 Trillion.

Less 'EU wants', more Commission President 'would like to work... on opening the door for Canada to be the first associate member of the EU."

Any decision on conferring such a status would rest with the member states... and almost certainly require unanimity...

Canada is welcome in the EU

So let's go further. Let's start by all ratifying CETA.

Let's set up an economic security pact against trade coercion: if Trump puts tariffs on us, we collectively respond with tariffs

My Trade Secrets today. As the forthcoming summit will show, the Xi-Trump relationship isn’t “transactional”. Transactions require trust and compliance.

It’s a balance of terror between two presidents battling hard behind the scenes for supply chain and technology dominance.
The main Trump-Xi summit achievement will be it happening at all
The US and China are in a stand-off rather than a state of agreement
