Rising gas prices have garnered a lot of attention, but diesel prices have also sharply increased recently amid mounting military tensions with Iran.
Why are diesel prices so much higher than regular gas?

Global Economy Is Running Out of Wiggle Room

Many countries blunted the most painful effects of the energy shock from the war in Iran. But prices remain elevated and risks are multiplying.

This is what is frightening the fossil fuel industry and they are pushing anti-renewables narratives everywhere - anti-wind farms, anti-solar farms... and of course they find lots of useful idiots who want to fight some imagined culture war.

so this is a bonanza for some specific parts of the Republican coalition, bad news for most other people (including Trump), and the kind of thing that starts to structurally change economies.
we've reached a new milestone- the U.S. average diesel price has hit $6.301/gal while gasoline is up to $4.355/gal. I expect both of these to jump noticably over the next 48 hours. diesel could hit $6.60/gal in a few days, surpassing the inflation-adjusted peak seen in 2022.
