A decade on, British politics and society still doesn’t grasp the nature of the threat posed to it by Russia.

🇬🇧🇩🇪 Andy Burnham on Germany:

Chancellor Merz was saying to me that the AfD are clearly linked to Russia, funded, I believe.

There is certainly misinformation, disinformation that is emanating from Russia into German politics, as I heard yesterday.

Well, that’s the American defence industry borked.

“Buy our products, you won’t get them if you try to use them to defend yourself against the Kremlin.”

Which is why you buy European, instead.

If Russia is engaged in a huge online influence campaign against European states then it might not be entirely surprising that Ukrainian strikes are targeting that capability.

It's this kind of behaviour from Russia that means we could soon find ourselves in a unpredictable escalation.

I think it is wrong to see the Russians and the ambitious unscrupulous hedge funds, politicians and right wing press as separate entities. This was an incredibly carefully planned multimodal attack on UK democracy, and it worked. Putting Russian interference in a silo risks failing to learn.

The logical Russian approach would be a) intervene on any side weakening western alliances and states and b) after the vote intervene to discredit everything.
Is there also evidence for a) for the indyref?

Let's call it what it is. Russia wants to destroy the existing security architecture in Europe so that Russian dominance can return to what it was before 1989.

We are preparing for various scenarios. We are investing heavily in our own defense.

Of all the ways to fight disinformation, this EXTREMELY DIRECT version hadn't occurred to me.

Destroy them all.

Russia has no chance of advancing any further on the ground in Ukraine. That is why it has focused on destabilizing Ukraine and Europe from within and intensified its terror from the air.

Russia has also poured enormous amounts of money into information warfare: fakes, bots, and fabricated news.
