Just finished this one from @backwardsknight.com ! I'm not much of a fantasy reader, but this one kept me reading for sure. Just one more chapter!

OK. It’s been brought to my attention that my Bluesky wall is (cough, wince, pull on collar) very grim and dystopian. So I want to start a running thread of books I’ve finished in 2025. Bear with me - it will take me a little while to catch up.

thecon.ai - reading this at the moment and while I'm still trying to make up my mind on the overall value, I do appreciate the level of snarky humor and the perspective on the hype for #ai which can be greatly complemented by reading the "Careless People".

Unfolding amidst the carnage of WWI, Alice Winn’s brilliant debut novel In Memoriam weaves a tender and beautifully romantic love story between two young men—and it haunts me still. #InMemoriam #AliceWinn #Booksky #BooksIRead #Novelsfor2025

4) Benjamin Labatut’s WHEN WE CEASE TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD, a richly associative swirl of scientific complicity in ethical horrors. I would like to return with a quantum physicist and a mathematician in tow to give me a guided tour of this nonfiction novel.

A Cautionary Tale About Science Raises Uncomfortable Questions About Fiction
Benjamín Labatut’s Sebaldian “When We Cease to Understand the World” grapples with science’s moral quandaries, but what is real and what is imagined?

3) Jesselyn Cook’s THE QUIET DAMAGE: QANON AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THE AMERICAN FAMILY was a strangely soothing read in a paradoxical way: it held up a mirror to my experience of alienation by family radicalization, which felt like a betrayal of isolation.

For some reason, I waited until now to read Jessica Hagedorn’s incendiary and cinematic novel Dogeaters—but maybe 2025 is as good as any to remind us of dictatorship's savagery and the innocents caught in its crossfire. #Dogeaters #JessicaHagedorn #Booksky #BooksIRead #Novelsfor2025

2) READY OR NOT by Cara Bastone, a surprise-pregnancy romance in which everyone is motivated by fundamental decency, unlike, sad to say, my experience of the world in 2025 (which has - disclaimer - not yet included a surprise pregnancy).

If you need a break from the travesty in D.C., consider reading Enter the Aardvark, Jessica Anthony’s rollicking satire about a closeted Republican congressman that brilliantly fuses humor & tenderness with astute political savvy. #JessicaAnthony #EnterTheAardvark #Booksky #BooksIRead #Novelsfor2025

"The CRoW access maps... show Open Access areas of England shaded in a yellow wash, dribbled over England like small puddles of piss-all." (p.371) - I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about the history of land ownership and how it still affects us today. #BooksIRead

Unpopular opinion: managers should read more of DeMarco, Deming, Drucker and others over recent authors. Books written in the last 10 years are risky and take them with pinch of salt. Often self promo concepts that haven't been proven at scale.

I finally wrapped up my monthly reads and found a few new favorites along the way. Now I'm curious—which book defined your June?
