##jobseeker
Govt to cut #JobSeeker benefit for 18 & 19 year olds who’s parents earn over $65,000, even if the teens have a disability or health condition. With #CostOfLiving & the job shortage they’re cranking up stress levels to 11, all to meet a target.

The best thing the Labor government can do to look after Australians is to #RaiseTheRate of #JobSeeker. That they think any JobSeeker can celebrate poverty, destitution, entrenching disadvantage, exploitative work and abuse as good is delusional. No. I am not a happy Aussie at all. #auspol

“One in five adults who die by suicide in this country are on the #JobSeeker payment, and 14% of people who die by suicide are on DSP.

‘We call that social murder’: Five years on from COVID supplement payments, more of us live in poverty
Five years ago Scott Morrison doubled JobSeeker payments, temporarily shielding millions from poverty. As costs rise and poverty rates worsen, why can't the government do that again?

Very interesting to see Tanya Plibersek (with assistant Ged Kearney) given Social Services. Both care deeply about matters of social justice and equality, it’ll be a tough portfolio, and I hope they can organise with those in the parliament and across the community around #JobSeeker and more.

Rishworth has had years to fix this broken system. Instead, we get a concept of a plan that:
- won't touch the flawed privatized model
- maintains the dehumanizing MO regime, and
- fails to acknowledge [or fix] below-poverty #Jobseeker rate.

Calling this 'significant reform' is insulting. #auspol
"You're not getting rid of the system of mutual obligations...Were you too afraid of the backlash to root out a Howard-era welfare system?"

[Doesn't answer]

"Do you think [MOs] are a good thing?"

Jobseekers given the middle finger by government. Starve, or go accept exploitation seems to be the message loudly sent from Canberra. Do Australians like to see government encouraging destruction of good society? Not raising #JobSeeker does this! 😡 #RaiseTheRate #auspol

When I post #RaiseTheRate - I specifically speak of the #JobSeeker payment. That there is not a single home affordable for anyone in Australia on JobSeeker is a serious shortfall of this Social Security Payment. It is driving #homelessness and poor health outcomes. #auspol We must do better.

"In Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, those on #Jobseeker are having to spend ALL of their income on rent."

One in six children live in #poverty. It will get worse.
But our allegedly 'centre-left' government doesn't see fixing it as a priority. #auspol

Good to hear talk of #JobSeeker being raised today. To more than the 67% it currently is of the aged pension. Acknowledging that poverty ends up costing a lot more than just the lives affected. If we #RaiseTheRate we boost the economy, livelihoods and SAVE $$! #auspol #EndPovertyInAustralia #Housing

New government, same shit treatment for those on #JobSeeker who are being targeted by vile job agencies workers and having their payments stopped. Also being targeted for 19yo debts but Plibersek says all good, nothing to see here. Listen to the podcast too in comments

People relying on #JobSeeker payments "is the cohort that requires the most urgent attention in next week’s budget."

Yet barely get a mention by the political and media establishment.
For Albanese to be credible on "no-one left behind", he must #RaiseTheRate.

Increasing JobSeeker is long overdue. Here’s how we could do it, without breaking the budget
Research shows where those cost-of-living stresses are greatest. It’s not the vast bulk of middle income Australia, but working age welfare recipients.

The 2PP is not encouraging rent caps across the country, or a freeze, it doesn’t seem keen to increase #JobSeeker. This is entrenching poverty and driving #homelessness. But very keen to cap donations to competitors. 😡 #auspol

Time to publish a 'Poor List'?

Like the person who called ABC radio about how he couldn't afford his rent on #Jobseeker, was surviving on oats "and water to make me feel full", and his job service provider was offering him prayers.

Extreme wealth and poverty = policy failure. #inequality #auspol
The AFR Rich List shows a grotesque accumulation of wealth while millions of Australians struggle with the cost of living.

There are now 178 billionaires in Australia, 17 more than a year ago.

Australia doesn't have a wealth problem. Australia has a wealth distribution problem.

Labor should:
•raise #jobseeker
•fix #NACC (start again)
•dump #AUKUS
•cut all ties to #ZionistIsrael
•build, build, build rentals

Would changes like that, even late in the game, make a difference to people's vote in 2025?
