Aliveness can be exhausting, lonely, frightening, or uncomfortable. So perhaps the trajectory has been:

We humans attach so many things to our bodies including morality. I want the ability to let that go. I want to embrace being alive the way a spider loafing on a rock does.

The clinical cost of exiling desire is that “symptom relief” can become another way of asking people to want less. In couples work, desire is often data: it points toward aliveness, grief, resentment, or freedom. You can’t interpret that signal if you keep treating it as noise.

Sometimes healing looks like retreating. Grieving. Disgust. Like becoming harder to reach.
