En cas d'effondrement, l'AMOC cesserait de réchauffer l'Europe du Nord-Ouest : hivers glaciaux malgré un monde à +2 °C, étés caniculaires persistants, sécheresses accrues, tempêtes amplifiées et 50 à 100 cm de mer en plus autour de l'Atlantique. Ce scénario à fort impact reste incertain, alors que seul le ralentissement est jugé très probable.
