I had an AmStudies seminar with Ken Bode and wrote a paper out about how US media covered up the genocide in East Timor just to spite him

it's the joke that the Columbian Exposition has to be mentioned in any text (especially ones with an AmStudies bent) that even remotely touches on the period.

How about a course
"American Studies 305
Trump/Musk coup, how it came about and current responses."

Since #AmStudies pulls from many disciplines, I'd collaborate with sociologists like @robertpjones.bsky.social

Did not expect to feel personally attacked when I opened the dictionary this morning, but here we are:

Making baby-step but significant progress on my #thesis chapter. My plan is to get a useable draft done by the 31st, one that won’t take a total rewrite. It’s slower going and more challenging, but I feel more confident in the words I’ve written.

What a course! As a fan of trains this would have been a great #AMStudies course!

Graduate students explore America’s polarized landscape via train in this course
Political polarization is at an all-time high. Students part of this University of San Diego Kroc School of Peace Studies course examine up close the country’s divides during their journey.

Working on an AmStudies course right now where this could be a neat addition! Planning readings from Frank Norris’s The Octopus and The Pit. We’ll also be playing the game, Pit (and likely Monopoly).

Part of the USAID's mission and budget is to promote democracy around the world.

Musk is feeding democracy to the woodchipper, is not ever what I am hearing when listening to RTE interviews with 'experts on US stuff'.

I had a similar side-eye when listening to AmStudies 'experts' at unis in DE.

It was an open question.

I suppose one might make the case that it's worse because unnecessary. German AmStudies being more or less free from actual systemic constraints and all that.
