Completely immersive. Deep, thoughtful and intelligent. Epic in scope, traversing 3 generations (1900-1977) and 2 continents. An unlikely cast of characters whose individual storylines converge in poignant ways connected by water.

Finally, I finished reading this book—most possibly the thickest one I’ve ever read, and perhaps ever will. What a story! Aside from feeling that it dragged a bit somewhere in the middle, the way it begins and ends is truly heartbreaking. Magnificent writing!

A wonderful #saga, telling the story of India through the lives of ordinary men and women. Lyrical, funny, tragic. Oprah loved it. So did I. Proof that you can be literary and a best seller. #thecovenantofwater #abrahamverghese

“Abscond” a short story by Abraham Verghese – Book Review #Abscond #ShortStory #AbrahamVerghese
I read quite a few short stories, usually between reading full length novels. Many serve as transitions, from one novel to the next, a palate cleanser if you will. I don't usually review the short stories I read, but in this case, I felt I must make an exception. "Abscond" packed so much emotion and empathy into its mere 38 pages, that it proves it is a work of a seriously skilled writer.
