IO Interactive - "A relationship with an external partner on our own IP, Project Fantasy, has come to an end."

IOI will "have to adapt to this new reality and its short-term consequences, including staffing decisions"

You know what game I hate? I cannot fucking stand playing [*IP I’d step over any of you to work on or adapt because I’m a greedy little truffle pig*]
No hate, no dogpiling, just curious.

For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

We can't just rely on him every 3 years, we need every studio head to realize the Western Canon is public domain IP that you can adapt free of charge

Or -hear me out- if we want to do horror IP we adapt one of the many, many excellent stories written by NOT straight white dudes and NEVER ADAPTED ONCE
Mike Flanagan will write and direct a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ for Warner Bros

It follows a group of people locked in a grocery store after a mysterious fog emerges that hides deadly creatures

Donkey Kong Country (1997)

A good example of what I meant by rarely does a show adapt its source material perfectly, but DKC is still a fun, bizarre take on the video game IP.

what hollywood should have learned: people want more original stories instead of the same handful of IP that have been regurgitated for the past 50 years

what hollywood learned instead: people want movies from youtubers that adapt internet stories

"It's quite an achievement to adapt an IP to a roleplaying game so well that it doesn't matter if you know anything about that IP in the first place..."

Implementation of intellectual property education in academic institutions can result in increased opportunities for protecting IP and limit costs, but to be successful technology transfer offices must also adapt go.nature.com/4iCtdhc

Lol today I learned that a certain streamer is looking for a writer to adapt an IP that I happened to have written a long reported feature on back in the day, and is using said feature in the pitch doc they’ve sent around …. but don’t see me for the job 🤪🥲

The official pitch for my board game adaptation of a major IP just shipped off and so I started chiseling away at another game concept I've had for a few years...

Only to discover that it's perfect for another popular, but niche IP so now I'm working to adapt it for a pitch. 😅

Yes, I would be happy to try and figure out how to adapt RollerCoaster Tycoon into a tv show. Will it be weird? Yes! But that’s just something we have to accept.

Gabriel Knight? Yes, I can figure it out.

Unfortunately, at this point though, why are we even making IP if no one will recognize them.

I think I’ve said this boringly in interviews, but one of the perks of working on existing IP is that you get to study a set of creative choices. I know TRON better than I’ll probably ever know any creative work by another person. That study is rewarding, and finding ways to adapt the essence? 👨‍🍳😘

I love that the Nutcracker is an impenetrable story that no one has been able to adapt in any coherent way outside of opera and ballet. It will never be an "IP", no matter how hard and how many times people try. It is just too strange.

The thing is MaRo has been saying for years that he believes Magics rules framework would be perfect to adapt other IPs. The "we chose not to" was always just the higher-ups, and once they decided there was money to be made using other IP, R&D went to work.

It's crazy, but if someone launched a new streamer that promised 20 episode season, new seasons every year, and just built shows like they use to instead of trying adapt every unadaptable IP in the world, they would probably be a hit. "We have a writers room and sets we reuse." Sign me up!

Woke up thinking of this book again. It would be my dream IP to adapt into a feature.

One of my favorite Hollywood stories is Pigeon: Impossible's weird path from indie short to major Disney release.

A Fox producer was trying to make his mark and find IP to adapt. He saw a fun short about a bird trying to steal a bagel and getting stuck in the nuclear football. He had to have it.

If you really look at the nature of art as work historically you have to reckon with IP being an aberration meant to adapt the product to a speculative market. It erases the value of the worker and divorces the product from the artist specifically to benefit capital holders.
Pretty good fucking points from Nightmare Masterclass’ youtube

"we haven't a single person with ttrpg experience to the degree that some people read our text and asserted that its most interesting aspects are unrelated to the IP we're trying to adapt. can't fucking win with these losers 😔"
February 9, 2026 at 9:26 PM
the thing is that i am all for regulating big tech into the ground, but only if we come at them with enough force to actually win and like, break up the companies and redistribute their IP

the regulation i’m against is the kind that almost always passes, where end users get pain & companies adapt

I would’ve said Dragon Age before the recent layoffs :/

I’d love to adapt another fantasy world I grew up with - Ursula K Le Guin or Tamora Pierce - and make very cool RPGs in it ❤️
