#AgeDiscrimination
and you get around that pesky age discrimination problem. I suppose it can be used to find awesome older workers with a ton of experience, but we all know that isn't the case. Happened to several older colleagues, they confirmed it with hiring managers.

“You’re too old for this position.” Could that comment become evidence in an employment discrimination case?

The federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) generally protects workers aged 40 and older from age discrimination by covered employers.

“Against Ageism” with Simon(e) van Saarloos
Have you ever thought about your age as being assigned at birth? In this episode, Simon(e) van Saarloos and I explore how queer thought might allow us to move beyond preconceptions of age, but also about the manifold and intersectional consequences of ageism. Simon(e) reflects on how trans narratives might work without reliance on linearity and why age is such a powerful category when it comes to agency. CW: Around minutes 11 to 13, there is a nongraphic mention of sexual violence.   References: Simon(e) van Saarloos’ Against Ageism: A Queer Manifesto (2023) Simon(e) van Saarloos’ Playing Monogamy (2019) Simon(e) van Saarloos’ Take ‘Em Down: Scattered Monuments and Queer Forgetting (2021) Simon(e) van Saarloos’ Give Piss A Chance: A Willing Suspension of Consequences Trans Despair (2027) Samantha Nye MU Hybrid Art House in Eindhoven Mona Eltahawy Ira Kip KIP Republic Denise Ferreira Da Silva Roe vs Wade Crip time Mel Y. What might a queer approach to age be? -      Simon(e) mentions age-segregated institutions. What are examples of these and how does age shape institutions? -      How do race and colonialism play into age? -      How often do you think about age? Do you perceive age differently in and outside of queer and trans community?

Too old to hire? What job ads reveal about age discrimination
While explicit age limits may define employers’ ideal candidates, they discourage older workers from applying and thereby exclude qualified applicants.

Advocating for Age-Based Voting Weight to Enhance Democratic Representation
The article argues for a voting system where younger Australians have more influence in decisions affecting their future. Bernard Keane, Crikey’s politics editor, posits that those most impacted by government policies should have greater voting power. He uses his own aging perspective to highlight the inequity of current electoral systems, where older voters hold disproportionate sway over issues like climate change, defence, and immigration—topics that disproportionately affect younger generations. Keane emphasizes that democratic participation should reflect the stakes involved, suggesting weighted voting could create a more equitable system. The piece critiques the status quo, urging policymakers to reconsider age-based representation in elections. It also touches on broader societal implications, linking voting rights to intergenerational fairness and the need for systemic reform. The article’s call to action is rooted in the belief that democracy should adapt to the realities of its citizens’ lives, ensuring that future generations have a voice in shaping their own futures.

There's a federal law called the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA). It exists because too many workers over 40 were pressured into signing documents they didn't fully understand.
