I post a lot about replacement SID chips, but something very special arrived today. This is the as-yet unreleased SIDemu, to which the creator was kind enough to grant me early access.
I love ARMSID and SIDKick, but everything about this thing feels next-level.

Popped the warranty sticker and finally opened up my C64C. I've been wanting to give it a proper once over and the 8580 doesn't hit like the 6581.
I have a SIDKick (thank you @dantootill.bsky.social ) and an ARMSid to test.
It's cleanish 'cos I battered it with HPA but needs a proper deep clean. 🙂

The Sidkick is one of the new SID replacements, but I think ArmSID is still as good as any.

ArmSID has been my goto replacement for a while, but, having built a couple is Sidkick PICOs, I have to say, it's pretty impressive. There's a smaller version available now which has everything built in and you don't need the pi Pico. It's cool. 👍

I like the SIDKick, it's way better than the 8580.
The shell now has a coating of wax and is flawless as far as I'm able to tell. Not a hint of yellowing which is nice. 🙂
I'm going to try the ARMSid next.

Still no sound on my #ARMSID 's. I pulled pin 28 up to 5V with 1K resistors so that it can select a SID type.. but nothing. I took them out and put the SwinSID's back in just to make sure and they played fine. I put the ARMSID's back in and again nothing. I will build the ARMSID configurator next.

No. there's UltiSID emulation on board (which is pretty good!) or you can drop in up to 2 SID chips in the handy ZIF sockets if you wish. In terms of modern SID replacement ARMSID is probably best you can get right now.

so far pretty good! I'm just using the integrated SID right now, but I want to maybe get some ARMSID chips in the future, it has two built sockets to add your own chips
