Can sea squirts help reverse aging effects? 🪸🧪

Sea squirts are filter feeders that are edible ascidians! They are a source of “plasmalogens”, a lipid found in our cell membranes that supports brain and heart health.

For those feeling Christmassy🎅, here's some aglaopheniid hydroids🎄 with ascidians and corals at their base. Looks like someone in the reef will have lots of gifts 🎁 this year. #Hype4Hydrozoa

The news is terrible, but the Variable Neon Slug (Nembrotha kubaryana) looks like this ↓ and that's not nothing.

Found in the Western Indo-Pacific Ocean region, it can grow up to 4 in (10 cm) long. They feed primarily on ascidians (sea-squirts)...

Today’s “fun with weird marine life” segment: sea pork (Aplidium stellatum, a tunicate).

These are colonial ascidians (yes, an animal) - usually, when they wash up, the zooids (the dark red trumpet-like parts) have fallen out, leaving only the pinkish white tunic, which looks like fatty pork. 🧪

This is a Nembrotha cristata from the Philippines. The blue jelly like things either side of its head are ascidians which is its main prey. I love the way this photo captures the branchial plumes on its back as well.
