Then on for a day at the #AucklandProject in Bishop Auckland. The Palace and Deer Park are wonderful (as are the volunteer guides in the Palace!), but we ran out of time in the fascinating #FaithMuseum — we will have to go back, and soon!

10th C monumental #StoneworkSunday cross shaft w elaborate decoration: eg acanthus top rt rare in S England but w parallels 8th C Jerusalem.
Found in East Stour Dorset chimney breast 1939, then used as garden ornament; BM acquired 1969.

Since 2018, I haven’t seen this path sans Heras fencing or excavations.

In ~1 month nearly 100 @ArcDurham students return to @aucklandproject for the next chapter of #archaeology #excavations.

It’s been 3 years since the 2021 Auckland Chapel #archaeology excavations…but the story continues when today one of our keenly-sighted interns spotted these beads while sample processing.

My eyes need the microscope…
