From the archive for Barbara Pym, whose birthday it is tomorrow, my thoughts on QUARTET IN AUTUMN, a poignant, bittersweet portrayal of loneliness, ageing and the passing of time.

Probably Pym’s masterpiece in a very strong field! #BookSky 💙📚 #BarbaraPym

The Sweet Dove Died

"Naturally the thought of death came into one’s mind occasionally but one tried to be sensible about it, not getting into a panic, not pushing it away."

Today is the birthday of mid-20th-century English novelist #BarbaraPym, whose work has been compared favorably to Jane Austen. Her personal library, initially recorded by her sister, has been cataloged on LibraryThing as part of our Legacy Libraries project.
