Astonished by this. I was SO sceptical about CBTi, couldn’t conceive that my problems were not physiological, that I wasn’t an “insomniac” but rather someone who suffered from *treatable* insomnia.
Major breakthrough for me with my sleeping - woken up at 3:45 am by daughter and I somehow managed to fall back asleep. Think this is a result of the improved sleeping due to the CBT training I've been doing, which has been literally life-changing so far.

🥱 Chronic insomnia is a common sx of chronic pain.

❌ But poor sleep ➡️ more pain ➡️ worse sleep ➡️ more pain.

💊 Sleep meds aren't the answer & can make the problem worse.

🏆 The gold standard for tx is CBTi = CBT for insomnia.

✨The better we tx sleep, the better we tx pain✨

Also, as someone who requires a CPAP machine and who has looked into CBTi for insomnia, lack of sleep *is* a medical issue that can require diagnosis and referral to an expert. Sleeping well isn't always easy!
Katie, this is your job. Yes, you are supposed to diagnose your patients. That's what I do when I'm at work

Seriously though, I’m four weeks into the course and am delighted to report that I think I might being one of the claimed 80% of people for whom “CBTi” works. I’ve had better regular sleep in last couple of weeks than I’ve had in DECADES

Fix Sleep and Fix Pain?

What if CBTi was standard in pain care? A new RCT found CBTi + best-evidence pain management led to better sleep, mood & coping—but didn’t reduce pain intensity more than standard care.

I heard something on the radio last week - either R4 or Times Radio probably - about CBTi as an aid to solving insomnia. It is even available on the NHS... tho I hate to think what waiting times are like. Might be worth investigating but it may not be practical for her.
CBTi — does it really work for insomnia?

Fellow insomniac here. Have you tried CBTi? Free VA app for insomnia. The classic book chapters read in monotone voices work well for me.

I was so shocked when she said it. she apparently learned how to do CBTI from a YouTube video & an app.

Sleep hygiene ≠ treatment for chronic insomnia.

Insomnia is maintained by behavioural & cognitive factors.
That’s why CBT-I is the recommended first-line treatment yet
access is limited.

That’s the gap we’re working to address!

Insomnia rules because so much health advice includes making sure you get good sleep and I'm like, I'm fuckin trying dude. Anyway I'm on increasingly large doses of medication after months of CBTI and nothing works consistently, it absolutely rules.

Ironically reposting this at 3am because my CBTi(nsomnia) has my in super sleep deprivation protocol
Technically a lady of the night. Realistically a lady of the coffee break. Lady of the happy hour. Lady of the early evening so we’re all in bed by 10.

then I talk about discontinuing and encourage them to consider stopping it & implementing CBTi measures. 2

I'm doing this stupid sleep CBTi app because NICE guidelines recommend it before I can get the good sleep meds and I'm having to do "sleep restriction".

It's day 2 and it's hell.

I'm starting on the sleep compression part of my CBTI sleep treatment, which means I have to stay up way later than I usually do.

Insomnia costs UK business billions.
It drives absenteeism, presenteeism & rising mental health claims.

Yet sleep is rarely part of wellbeing strategy.
That needs to change.

We’re working to make evidence-based sleep training accessible across healthcare & workplaces.
