Our work out today in @nature.com!

We identified a previously unknown function for WEE1 in cell cycle control that could explain some of the inhibitor side-effects.

We found WEE1 inhibits APC/C(Cdh1) to promote S-phase and cell cycle entry. Inhibit Wee1 , block or impair cell cycle entry.
Promising cancer drugs called Wee1 inhibitors have been limited by serious side effects.

Researchers have discovered a previously unknown role for Wee1 that could explain why.

The findings could help identify patients most likely to benefit & support development of safer, more targeted treatments.
Hidden role of a cancer treatment target could explain toxic side effects
Wee1 inhibitors are a promising new cancer treatment, but serious side effects threaten their adoption in the clinic. Now, researchers from the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS), the University...

Koebbe et al. (Eur J Hum Genet 2026) found loss-of-function variants in ATM and CDH1 enriched in gastric cancer. In Helix, CDH1 variants are strongly enriched in cases; ATM has too few cases with the variant to call (OR 1.85, 95% CI 0.51–6.7; published 3.94). #HelixReplicates

Vrou...

I hate that the biggest story from Jack Smith's testimony yesterday was that kerfuffle with that Senator looking like an idiot for confusing the Iowa Hawkeyes w/the Atlanta Hawks.

It's obscured the important story of the crimes of which Jack Smith was investigating DJT + the evidence uncovered.

After losing her mother and sister to stomach cancer, Ashley Zaldivar made the decision to have a total gastrectomy.

Now, she's paying it forward by sharing her story and advocating for genetic testing. #OncSky #EndCancer
Stomach cancer previvor: Why I promote genetic testing
Ashley Zaldivar resisted getting a gastrectomy until her mother died of a stomach cancer linked to the genetic mutation they shared. Today, she promotes genetic testing to boost awareness of CDH1.

A new multicenter GASTRIC consortium study identify that the absence of unusual endoscopic findings may be reassuring; masses, thickened folds, and signet ring cell carcinoma indicate higher risk of advanced disease in CDH1 carriers.

Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer is a rare, serious genetic condition that increases the risk of developing stomach cancer.

Because the disease usually doesn't present symptoms until it's advanced, it's important to understand the risk factors. Learn more: spr.ly/63323fpWqV

Is stomach cancer hereditary?
Hereditary diffuse gastric cancer is a condition caused by the inherited CDH1 gene mutation that increases the risk of stomach cancer. Paul Mansfield, M.D., explains how it develops, the importance of genetic testing and why preventive surgery is the most effective way to manage risk.

Faithful meiosis requires more than APC/C activity—it also requires degradation of the APC/C activator Cdh1. Yeast studies reveal how nutrient sensing regulates this process and supports accurate chromosome segregation.

Now I am concerned for you, have you been checked to see if you carry
BRCA1, BRCA2, PTEN, TP53, CDH1, and STK11 genes? Because that could be serious. My aunt got breast cancer from HRT.
