OH WAIT I forgot an obvious example, the postpositions!

So in Na'aqal we have a few common postpositions, & the ending of the noun changes depending on what "direction" it is. Examples:

Baana = "house"
Baanat al = "of the house"
Baano va = "to the house"
Baanan xo = "in the house"

"Atalantis" is my version of Atlantis, & "Na'aqal" is also the name of the native Atalanteans. Everyone on the island speaks it!

Na'aqal is an ergative-absolutive language! This is one of the first things I decided on with it 😁

The verb also comes first & changes for transitive vs intransitive. So the sentence "He laughed, and she kissed him" would be written "Laughed(i) he, and kissed(t) her he."

#ConlangApril 11. How does your language treat the agent (A) and patient (P) of a transitive verb compared to the sole argument (S) of an intransitive verb? With nominative–accusative alignment, A and S are treated the same way (the nominative case), while P is treated differently (the accusative case). E.g. in English, we use 'he' in both "he laughed" (S) and "he saw the girl" (A), but 'him' in "the girl saw him" (P). With ergative–absolutive alignment, P and S are treated the same way (the absolutive case), while A is treated differently (the ergative case). Na'aqal is the common language spoken in Atalantis, for every purpose other than the crystal incantations (which are done in "the Divine Speech," only known by the clergy). In the colonies it is evolving into a lingua franca, though that development is gonna be cut short *cough*

Haad dua'ab = "good morning"
Haad muxaaji = "good afternoon"
Haad ka'ar = "good night"
Haad faaroza = "good hours" (any time of day)

Laaiso ["with grace"] is used like "please"

"Yaiaku?" means "do you catch it?", asking for understanding. Response: "Yaiaki!"

Na'aqal developed on Atalantis, which was extremely isolated for thousands of years, so it's quite isolated. The only other language that's close is Hacenian, their nearest neighbors who descended from Na'aqal explorers.

Na'aqal in my series #GodsOfAtalantis is like 80% a priori, because I chose the grammar structure & made up a lot of vocab based on pure vibes.

#ConlangApril 4. I'd say Tió'aê is a bit of both, as elements of it—the different tones, some of the sounds and grammar rules (which, to be fair, I hadn't defined many yet lol)—were inspired by Vietnamese, Yoruba, and Mandarin, and sometimes "constrained" by certain (1/2)

Adjectives & adverbs usually come before the words they describe, though you can play with it for poetic purposes.

Lodbau, like the language lojban it's based on, is a logic language, intended to be entirely syntactically unambiguous. Sentences can be vague (e.g. not specifying tense), but it's always possible to determine the grammatical function of each word in a sentence.
