There is no better way to learn how to control and correct a car sliding in snow than practicing sliding in snow. Donuts teach them to control their sliding car, even if they don't realize it is.
Better in an empty lot than on busy road.

I implemented a small "Drift Assist"—subtly present in quite a few games—that automatically stabilizes the car by countersteering, without inhibiting player input (the assist is adjustable and can be disabled). Check out the input in the bottom left corner.

Fair enough! I'm the 9 and 3 type of driver, so it would feel odd to me. Keep thinking about what it would be like trying to drift with that cover on, lol. Would make countersteering quickly a bit of a nightmare. Style points, I suppose! :D

on my way to work today, i was going 50 on a highway onramp and the traffic in front of me was going 30 to merge, and i hit the brakes and slid a little. not a touch of fear. just light countersteering. this naturally aspirated subaru impreza is merely an extension of my body

Put the 4 year old in a one seat trampoline park electric go cart and with no coaching he was countersteering in drift corners and running circles around the rest of the field. He's a natural!

you have to put a lot of force into the handlebar, intentionally countersteering like a motorcycle, to get the bike to lean at that speed
my old climby California commute used to regularly get me 40+ mph but there aren't many hills long/steep/straight enough for that kind of speed close to NYC

since countersteering was originally what drifting was intended to be in this game. It’s like this for all drifts, but ice really exaggerates the effect because of how slippery it is, so it kicks you “out” further.

Why? Vehicle autonomy saves lives. A self-driving car is competent. Most humans can’t do a three-point turn and don’t know about countersteering. A self-driving vehicle never gets tired, drunk, angry, or distracted. Humans pathologically do all the above. So, what’s “bad” about it?
