Is immobilisation really the primary cause of post critical illness weakness? #emimcc #critcare
#VisualAbstract Protocolized early mobilization did not improve functional status at ICU discharge or 1 year compared with conventional physiotherapy.

Probably one of my last ✨ED✨ boards for a while! Making sure we get analgosedation on our tubed pts is something I’m super passionate about. It’s tough when you don’t have the capability to bolus off a bag. We have to get addtl orders for boluses!

(2/2) and my switch to 100% Forage feeding does not accomodate him very well, so I decided to try and help him gain some weight by feeding him some additional critcare mixed with banana, and he's really loving the mixture ☺️
He really is a 13 year old baby 🥰

All the things I managed to get Cookie to eat today. Not shown are the 20ish other things I offered but he refused 😅 But it's more than he has eaten on his own since Sunday 🥰 I still feed him critcare every few hours.

He wasn't eating well yesterday, barely anything but Bananas, Peaflakes and Apples. I had to forcefeed him every 20-30mins with critcare. this morning he's actually eaten almost half a bowl of critcare without protest so i think hexs getting better 😊

Just out of curiosity, has anyone used a cystatin C ELISA from Novus Biologicals before, and if so, how much did it cost & what year did you buy it?

#critcare and some subset of kidney/nephrology tags would be appropriate I think lol

Interesting study on the the relative usefulness of pulse pressure, CI and etCO2 to predict fluid responsiveness after PLR. PP is not surprisingly poor while etCO2 seems to be comparable to CI measurement in predictive ability. #critcare https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00134-012-2693-y

Expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) has some evidence for improving swallowing in several disease states

But what about after extubation in intensive care? Can EMST improve post extubation dysphagia?

🫁 Persistent air leak (PAL) is more than a bubbling chest drain. In critically ill patients it can severely affect oxygenation, ventilation, and lung expansion and may require bronchoscopy, surgery, or even ECMO.
