For every bikeway they cancel we’ll build 10 more. Here’s a new 2-way cycletrack & protected intersection on County Drive in Fremont under construction, to be completed later this month.

In the East Bay this includes the San Pablo Ave projects, East Bay Greenway, Oakland’s Downtown MLK cycletrack & Broadway bus lanes, Richmond’s Harbour Way cycletrack, an Alameda bikeway, 5 Contra Costa bike projects… the list goes on and on. Some of these were expected to break ground *this year*
NEW: U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has ordered officials to stop action on all Biden-era discretionary grants to build bike lanes and other "green infrastructure" so the agency can review the project for possible removal.

Three years ago we opened the first bike project that was started and finished during my initial two months as Director of SDOT. The project completed the cycletrack around Green Lake by placing concrete barriers to take a small slice of Aurora for bikes on the east side of the lake.

Rode past the eco counter on fifth street cycletrack this morning. 1798 bikes counted in under 9hrs.
If every one of those people riding bikes was instead in an SUV, the line of cars would be almost 9 km long.
People riding bikes don't cause traffic, cars cause traffic.

Congrats to @bikewalkalameda.bsky.social on the new Grand St cycletrack in Alameda, looking shiny! This was one of 2023's “3 protected bikeway approvals in one day”. The others were Oakland 14th St, now in construction, & Emeryville 40th St, starting later this year.

Assuming even the worst going forward, I’m happy that the 15th St NW cycletrack will survive through 2026 peak bloom.
