Parquet Panic: CVE-2025-30065 Puts Data Pipelines in Peril!
Apache Parquet's Java Library has a security vulnerability with a CVSS score of 10.0, allowing remote code execution. To exploit it, attackers need a malicious Parquet file. The flaw impacts versions up to 1.15.0 and is fixed in 1.15.1. Meanwhile, Apache projects continue to be prime targets for cyber threats.

The AI craze is so python-centric that it invariably has forced many of potential newcomers to "datasci" into Python. None of the models even introduce R solutions unless prompted.
I've had to put "NEVER use or show me python code" in all the LLM personalized system prompts just to keep sane.

Update on my attempt to be a good scientist and avoid sloppy work when evaluating my proposal for large (think 10s to 100M) scale frailty survival models. This FAFO of mine is why you should never skip pilot experiments before running away with formal designs.

Yes, really bad move, too many "in it for the money" folks. the better move is to say, major in math or physics and study coding on the side w/ a minor in compsci or datasci. They don't trust this advice because it sounds riskier, but it's actually less risky if you're actually good at math.

Markian & I worked with Katy Sadowski to create small OMOP CDM patient databases.
We discussed a #workflow to generate 1 million patient DB that went from ~220GB to ~20GB -- ~90% data reduction!
