Okay, let's talk about why attempts to critique (or hell, straight up stick it to) Christianity in SFF often end up being more anti-Jewish than they are anti-Christian.

When you consider how many gamers think:
-that LG is the "most/stricted good" alignment
-that LG = obeying systems/not trying to change them even if they're harming people

If you're a creative in games, it's so important to have interests--and *studies*--outside of games themselves, and that's why I'm worried about a lot of college game design programs.

Never fucking fails: any time you talk about a harasser, an abusive boss, a toxic coworker, etc. a man will show up to try to shut down the conversation by claiming said person is a good person because they were nice to HIM.

In addition to inheriting sexist, racist DNA from its literary inspirations, the TTRPG community still has a strong insider vs outsider mentality.
Its founding myth is that of the persecuted geek who found friends and refuge in tabletop gaming.

I have often wondered why gamers who claim to love games so passionately hate the people who make them. But it’s not just gamers. It’s fandom (especially geek fandom, to the extent that it still exists and hasn’t been mainstreamed) in general.

We’ve hit the “I just want to stay home and play video games” stage of adolescence.

Like, ppl, the persistence of the d20 alignment system is pretty clear proof that TTRPG designers DON'T think deeply about ethics/morality.

Gather 'round, cats and kittens, and let's talk about common words in RPGs and how to pronounce them.
1) golem: GO-lem (long o). Not like gah-lum, like Gollum. Creature from Jewish folklore. Most famous one's from Prague.

So I tweeted out a Q to game writers about what they wish others knew about how game writing is different from writing for other media.
I was asking for technical answers. Like how interactive narratives is different.

I'm not generally like everyone make sure this person *never ever* gets a job in games again, but when I say that what happened behind the scenes is so much more horrific than anything that went public?

Puzzle design and teaching have an important component in common: success is people feeling smart, not marveling at how smart YOU are.
You've hit the sweet spot of puzzle design when A) most people can solve it, but B) don't feel that it was inevitable that they would.

Remembering that time I tweeted a thread about what we were interviewing for in game writers and the thing people got maddest about was "You need to demonstrate that you can think analytically about what makes a design decision in a game you're playing work or not work."

I just personally finished it feeling kind of bleak about the whole thing.

I get asked a lot why I'm still in games, what with the harassment of women, & the not paying well and all that.
Like, man, my parents would LOVE it if I did anything else. I talk to women who've got out and they're like, "my ulcer went away!"

Reminder: the yearly Paizo message to employees asking what to do if we got harassed/assaulted by attendees:
1) Tell an executive.
2) Try not to put yourself in that situation.
3) Remember you're there to make sure attendees have a good time.
