Delighted to become the owner of this Lucy Newton painting of a #kittiwake and its chick at #DunbarHarbour. It captures the location and this beautiful #seabird so well. Now, where to hang it?

It’s the #kittiwakes @dunbarharbour for #SuperSeabirdSunday - lovely to see the young chicks developing (mainly 2 in nests) on the cliff ledges. Also a bird newly ringed by the ELC Rangers which helps track movement and survival

The #kittiwakes through the pink of the sea-thrift at Dunbar harbour. They’re settled down on their nests and it shouldn’t be long now until the first chicks appear. Hopefully it’ll be a good breeding season for them.

The circle of life continues on the castle cliffs at #DunbarHarbour. Adults, chicks and newly fledged juvenile #kittiwakes share the ledges above the bustle of the busy fishing and leisure harbour - another breeding season is drawing to a close.

#Kittiwakes on the castle and cliffs at #DunbarHarbour ... their distinctive yellow bills, black-legs, black wing tips, red eye and red mouth and tongue clearly on display. My favourite small gull.

The #EuropeanShag chicks are growing up quickly at #Dunbarharbour #EastLothian - with their feathers starting to replace their fluffy down. Perched on the rocks just off the harbour seawall.

The #Europeanshag chicks have shot up in size, now matching their parents. Their fluff has almost vanished as their primaries come through, and those growing wing muscles are getting their first real tests for flight.

This male Eider came into #DunbarHarbour on the high tide. It was diving repeatedly and successfully caught a crab on one dive. With clear water I could follow it underwater, or watch the trail of bubbles as it dived and surfaced. Dives lasted around 15–20 seconds.

Plenty of #kittiwakes tending their chicks on the cliff ledges at #DunbarHarbour - unperturbed by the comings and goings of the fishermen, lifeboat and visitors beneath them.

This #greyseal appeared briefly in #DunbarHarbour today - with a small fish catch which the gulls almost immediately came in for. Adult grey seals are “big” weighing in at 150-300kg with the females at the lower end of the scale.

Sand martins active at #DunbarHarbour today - in flight and collecting nesting material. All the way from sub-Sahara they return to the same sites year after year to breed.

Still pretty blustery out there tonight after #StormFloris - had a quick trot to #Dunbarharbour after today’s round of golf (more a battle in the wind than golf ⛳️) - the #kittiwake chicks are now juveniles but still demanding of their parents.

Nice to catchup with Fiona & JR at #dunbarharbour today & lovely to see & hear the #kittiwake numbers building up as the season progresses - with some apparent movements in the cliff ledges being occupied

Still a few small #kittiwake chicks at #DunbarHarbour, with late broods scattered across the castle cliffs. Their older neighbours are already departing, beginning their dispersal at sea. Once they leave, these young birds won’t return to breed for another 3–5 years

The #seathrift in the Battery #DunbarHarbour is lovely just now. The area is managed by #volunteers provides views out across the harbour & sea, and is the venue for local events. A little breezy last night!

Watching the head & neck stretches as part of the breeding displays of the #EuropeanShags on the rocks just off #DunbarHarbour #EastLothian - its head crest is very prominent and a vibrant green sheen on their feathers.

The #housesparrows are always around the creels at #DunbarHarbour. Despite feeling so common, the UK population has declined by 71% since 1977 (BTO) due to loss of nesting sites, fewer insects for chicks, and disease.

Last of the #kittiwakes hanging on at #DunbarHarbour before they head back to sea for a long winter. Possibly travelling as far (1700+ miles) to the waters around Greenland. Big migration for these dainty #gulls

Day 11 of #30DaysWild - took some time out this evening at #DunbarHarbour to watch the kittiwakes for a while. One of the ones spotted in flight appears to only have a single leg (pic 1). You can clearly see their distinctive black wing tips in flight.

Encouraging progress at #DunbarHarbour as scaffolding goes up around McArthur’s (fishermen) Store following the roof fire. A temporary cover is being added to help it dry out — a step closer to bringing it back into use.

Side by side #DunbarHarbour - the resident all weather lifeboat the John Neville Taylor (Trent-class, Op. No. 14‑35) and the “relief” vessel the Windsor Runner (Trent-class, Op. No. 14‑06). Thought I was seeing double 🤓
