If you're a pregnant ESOL immigrant you are gonna be looking for the word 'pregnant' in health information not the term 'women' because you're PREGNANT, & if you are an ESOL cis woman you will be LESS attached to the English term 'pregnant women' than a native English speaker, it's so obvious gahhh
When I worked in public health communications, I never saw a single piece of research that showed that cis women, or women who didn't have English as their first language, couldn't relate to "pregnant people". (8/9)

In my experience, ESOL Asians often pronounce Māori better than old white people bc they - you know - read the words as written. Te Reo Māori could be really effectively deployed as a foundation of any phonics-based literacy system here, but that would involve not being fucking racist.

I essentially think there isn't a real world country, but there is 'the UK but it builds more houses, has more ESOL lessons and doesn't have a "if you're not in a registered school, you're not our problem" approach to kids'.
