#Ehrlichiosis
Update: today is exactly 14 days since Zeke (Nazbah) adopted me and my family at Monument Valley, Utah. Zeke has ehrlichiosis (tick-borne disease), giardia, worms and is severely malnourished. He had a blood transfusion to help overcome ehrlichiosis. He is starting to act like a puppy again!

Warmer winters mean ticks survive and expand their range. We’re seeing: continued growth of Lyme disease,
expansion of lone star ticks (ehrlichiosis, alpha-gal meat allergy), longer tick seasons with more human exposure.

This is Zeke (his Navajo name is Nazbah). Zeke is malnourished, dehydrated and has a tick disease called Ehrlichiosis, which causes his immune system to attack his red blood cells and his respiratory system. Our Navajo guide told me l could rescue him. He is so adorable and loved now!

Great history in donor-derived infection case:

3 weeks before donation, “the donor removed several ticks crawling on his body and clothing, including 1 attached tick; he then experienced an illness attributed to food poisoning the week before transplant.”
