To add to all the lovely videos of non-AI processes multicilia beating: ctenophore multiciliated cells! They can reach up to 1mm long, causing a rainbow light refraction effect with the correct light positioning! Taken by myself at MBL in 2019 embryology. Realtime frame-rate!

Is John doing embryology? Or genetics? Wouldn’t you like to know. 😉

What a fantastic essay by last year's @mblscience.bsky.social Embryology students! A perfect paean to the most wonderful science: "It's exhausting; it's exhilarating; it's Embryology."

the anti-trans bigots keep having to come up with ever-more reductive and dehumanizing definitions of "sex" (gametes! chromosomes [but ignore intersex people]! embryology!) and it's ridiculously desperate
The argument "We have decided to define sex as those aspects of sex that medical intervention cannot yet change" just isn't that compelling to me.

Caring an awful lot about the definitions of words is similar.

Yes, that is me, for those who did not yet know. This was not planned but I am very happy to go 'home' even though I will miss a lot about Portugal. If you still want to visit, hurry, otherwise see you in Cambridge. If you want to know more contact me directly.
