Split foam rollers are excellent balance tools. This is one that you could do after you’re able to do a single leg balance with some level of confidence. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks #balancetraining

Years ago, there was no way that I could do this, my knees hurt all the time. I still have the same knees but they’re not nearly as cranky as they used to be. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks

I think it’s important to help older adults get stronger. It improves our confidence but it also makes us less fragile and more durable. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #centenariandecathlon #exercisesnacks

Strength and balance are good things to have plenty of, but most of the time when I’m getting up from the ground I’m using a hand to push off. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks

Exercise snacks are an excellent way to build an exercise habit. 30-45 second intervals spread throughout the day. It will surprise you how addictive feeling better can be. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks

Hip flexor exercises can be humbling. Ease in and take your time. 5 on each side is great. You can work up to 2-3 sets of 10 over time but don’t get ahead of yourself. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks #hipflexors

Exercise helps us get stronger but it also helps me keep a lot of the aches and pains that come with aging dialed down. I’m working with John Longoria at Active Rx to rehab my shoulder but also to get my knees, ankles and hips feeling solid again. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks

I never thought much about hamstrings until a partially tore mine. It was taking forever to heal but eventually I found a really good PT and that made a huge difference. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks

I don’t do a lot of yoga but I enjoy it when I do it. It is definitely humbling! #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks

This is one of those isometric exercises that looks really easy. Watching it is easy, doing it is a little tougher. Give it a try and let me know how you like it. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks #isometrics

Exercise helps equip you to navigate day to day life. Improved strength and mobility are great but so is the confidence that comes with practice. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks #lateralstepup

My knees are crankier than they were a few years ago but so much better than they were 10-15 years ago. Trying to be more deliberate about building leg strength and improving hip and ankle mobility. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks

For the past 3 or 4 months I’ve babied the hell out of my left shoulder. Now it’s time to start rebuilding muscle strength but also to start letting my brain/nervous system that it’s back in business. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks

“Dude - your balance sucks!” Sort of blunt but incredibly effective and for me it was remarkably motivating. How’s your balance?

The most effective exercise program is one that you’ll do. Focus on doable and as you get stronger you can increase the difficulty. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks #squats

It’s so important that older adults find safe ways to do hard things. It helps us build strength and resilience and it’s great for outlook and perspective. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks #inchworm

I’ve always liked core work and this one works your core, but also your shoulders, arms and chest. As far as reps go, start where you are. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks

Exercise has to be doable to be effective. You can do that with wall sits by adjusting how deep you go. Your thighs don’t have to be parrallel to the ground for them to be effective. Find a depth that’s doable and start there. #agingshouldntsuck #wallsits #exercisesnacks

For whatever reason I like this version of the dead bug exercise better than the original. I try to do 2-3 sets of 10-12 but if you’re just starting out a single set of 5 is a great place to start. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks #deadbugvariation #afriendlynudge

It’s easy to get discouraged when we start a new exercise routine. We want to start noticing improvements and it takes longer than we think it should. Be patient with yourself and keep showing up. The strength and resiliency will come. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #exercisesnacks
