#FF/FG
I mean that's what FF and FG should do but I assume when opposition parties say do away with it they mean not collecting in any form which leaves them with a massive budget hole
October 6, 2026 at 7:34 PM
Rubbish!

Is that the best FF/FG & Minister O’Sullivan can do?

In this moment of tax plenty.

Fair dues to @liamquaidetd.bsky.social for his tireless work for the Ukrainian refugee community in Trabolgan

I know the local FF, FG and SF TDs did the square root of feck all in this fight, it's wonderful to see this outcome

Clearly FF and FG core voters are well enough off to do, prolly with the money they have from renting out houses and getting HAP.

#FFGFailures #Spéirgorm #Budget26
Who the fuck has money to be putting it into a government savings account?

Budget increase of Tax Free Income from Rent a Room scheme from €14,000 to €16,000
The FF/FG Gov admitting that they think its OK for renters to pay €16,000pa to rent ONE ROOM in someone’s house

That’s 1,3333 per month
Extraordinary!!!!!

No wonder we have young people running out of the country

Remember the old saying, "you have to spend money to make money".
Imagine investing in Ireland instead, so our brightest aren't forced to emigrate and can look after the aging population?

I just hate FG and FF so, so, so much.
Harris says the government expects to run a surplus of €6.7 billion this year and €9.5 billion in 2027.

He says this is important to avoid spending unreliable tax revenues, to build up financial buffers, and to plan for a future when Ireland will have an ageing population.

There's also an element of FF TDs/ FG TDs showboating to their demographics in a effort to maintain the illusion they haven't merged. FF will be 'fighting to ease the burden' and FG will be 'fighting to rein in overspends'.
It's as choreographed as a wrestling match sponsored by a kite company.

Good for me, but really are we the cohort who need tax breaks - that money would be better put to use among the many struggling in this high cost economy. FF/FG won’t buy my vote with this financial ‘sop’.
Last minute changes to the tax package for #Budget2027: the cutoff point for the higher tax rate now rises by €2,500 (more than expected), so those earning over €46,500 get €500 more per year. PAYE and Personal tax credits rise by €125 each. Full time worker on average wage takes home €750 more (1)

Not a fan of this TD but it’s hard not to credit him with standing up to the FF/FG cartel.
#speirghorm
#Spéirghorm the Government is again failing to protect citizens. Human rights, LGBT+ rights, divorce, bodily autonomy, they've resisted all demands from citizens. Now, our data is to be given away for free to the tech bros for their endless, relentless quest for more.
Just wait for it...

The Irish government is using its Presidency of the European Council to push for Big Tech's profits to take precedence over the right to data protection.

The use of personal data “in the context of AI” would automatically be lawful in their proposal.

Everyone should know this.

Paul Culloty points to one fascinating aspect of the latest poll from the Sunday Independent stable: Tonight’s Ireland Thinks poll is notable for none of the parties reaching 20% (don’t recall that ever happening before?): SF 19% (-2) FF 18% (+1) FG 18% (-1) Soc Dems 11% (+1) Aontú 8% (-) Ind Ireland 5% (-2) Labour 4% (+1) Greens 3% (-)

Spending decisions, including wasteful ones, are made by the government on the basis of civil servants' recommendations. I dream of a government that'd voluntarily decide to sack itself, but I can't see FF/FG being enthusiastic about the idea...
October 5, 2026 at 7:34 PM
I’m not holding my breath: the NI government is too dysfunctional and while we had some political will with @greenparty.ie in government normal car-brained FF/FG service has been resumed in the last year.

Minnesota Vikings 15, Miami Dolphins 10.
Dallas Turner – 3 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 sacks (8 yds), 2 QBH, 1 FF.
Will Reichard – 5-5 FG, 15 points.
Kadyn Proctor – active; no stats.

Not to do so would be irresponsible. The government spokesperson went on to say that they should support motorists and “services that people rely on”, so it seems that even FF+FG agree they are in the tax-and-spend business. #Ireland

Extraordinary failure by successive FF/FG governments whose view on food security is as provided by the IFA & the concentrations of power in meat supply chains.
Utter failure of surely the first principle of any government to ensure food is available + reasonably priced + worth doing for the farmer.

Strange that II are less transfer-toxic than Aontú - maybe because many of their members are from the FF-FG gene pool?
October 3, 2026 at 8:33 PM
FF and Labour are overperforming compared to pure PR. SF, FG, II and SD are about right.

Aontú are well below based on picking up relatively few transfers.
October 3, 2026 at 8:27 PM
FF-FG would be short of a majority, but Independent Ireland or Aontú would get them to the line + a few indos.

Anyone who doesn’t accept that the FF-FG permanent coalition have packaged water services up with a bow as ‘Uisce Éireann’ in anticipation of a future privatisation excuse is deluding themselves. Labour Party were up to their necks in this farce as well, as are right wing of the Greens #spéirgorm
Privatisation of water has been an absolutely unmitigated disaster. The Green Party would put water back into public hands and reverse years of radical underinvestment.

Proof that right-wing parties (stand up FF/FG) will not even consider rent control and anti-eviction measures.

I'll leave this here:

"The Youth Council of Spain said the average rent in Spain had climbed to €1,176 a month".

Average Rent Ireland 2026 — €1,336 a month. share.google/Kp6uEk2aOQnW...
Average Rent Ireland 2026 — €1,336/mo by County | IrelandInsights
The average rent in Ireland is €1,336/month — official CSO data, not Daft asking prices. All 26 counties ranked, Dublin (€2,165) to Donegal (€1,001).

FF and FG are such a hypocritical shower.
October 2, 2026 at 5:53 PM
I wish those who are consistently objecting to solar and wind farms planned near their communities, would remember this. And those voters who keep ff/fg in government, who keep forgetting that power transport grid upgrades are also needed, just as much as power generation.
October 2, 2026 at 12:14 PM
FF/FG are environmentally and ecologically illiterate - populists that give "something to everyone in the audience" regardless of whether right or wrong. Speaking out of both sides is their nature. Don't expect hard, difficult decisions in government. Value-free governance is the MO.
