The Avro York is a close cousin to the famous Avro Lancaster. A few were built during WW2 including one for Winston Churchill, but it played a significant role in the Berlin Airlift. Only a handful have survived including this one at the RAF Museum, Midlands. See Alt ! www.alamy.com/profile/ross...

#TreasureIsland is an artificial island right next to #YerbaBuenaIsland in #SanFranciscoBay. #FlyingBoats ruled transoceanic passenger air travel, and an airport was envisioned in the 1930s. WW2 got the airport cancelled and relocated to today's location south of San Francisco.

Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, home of the legendary Sunderland flying boat museum. a British flying boat patrol bomber, built by Short Brothers and used mainly by the RAF from 1938 through the 1950s. It was one of the most successful flying boats #flyingboats #wartime #aircraft #pembroke #wales
