The theory of "fusionism," which was the dominant strategy of the American libertarian movement from the mid-20th century until recently, was that you had to pick a political party to ally with, and the right was more respectful of liberty than the left. Fusionism was a catastrophic mistake. 1/

I'm willing to try out more efforts at fusionism to remove Republicans but the idea that there is an untapped reservoir of economic lefty voters turned off by Democrats doesn't jive with the results.

Conservative/libertarian fusionism was a political coalition that had to accommodate e.g. the Southern Strategy GOP. This undermined fusionism's immune systems for identifying illiberal elements in its midst.
Fusionism isn't sufficient to meet this moment. That's why it got steamrolled.
