9-10th - Saharan dust may arrive via the Azores - confidence in N. African migrants reaching our shores is low.
11-14th - Winds will swing to a north-easterly direction, resulting in hot days/mild nights. Bedstraw Hawk-moth (Hyles gallii) & Great Brocade (Eurois occulta) possible. #teammoth

Common Heather (Calluna vulgaris) and Western Gorse (Ulex gallii) looking beautiful up on Dartmoor last Friday. Also saw some gorse overgrown with the parasite Dodder (Cuscuta epithymum), which has tiny pale flowers and tangles of red thread-like stems.

Marsham Heath looking resplendent today with its characteristic mixture of Western Gorse (Ulex gallii) and Heather (Calluna vulgaris). Some of the gaps in vegetation have extensive patches of terrestrial lichens, as do the man-made banks within the heath and secondary woodland.
